Re: Specify location of attachment within a postWell, since the request is going to be adopted, that's kind of a moot point now. |

give me a break, if justin was really concerned about HD space then he would purge all the images in dev/null, so that threads really do get deleted (as it stands, individual posts still remain as well as any attachments).
the extra code and harddrive space needed to link from dev/null to a new topic would be so minuscule it's comical. HTML webpages average..what? Maybe 10 KB for 1 thousand lines of code? The 'img src' html tag would take only one line max, so how much precious space is being wasted? Maybe it's just me, but i don't think Justin is all too concerned or anal-retentive about such things.
I'm not against SurfTheSky 's request, just your poor argument.
I don't think BBR even has a limit to HD space, or a limit to bandwidth. This site gets so much traffic I can't see how it can have a limit. |

the only limit is human time. everything else is pretty much free, even bandwidth seems to be getting that way. A site can buy more server related stuff than it can ever put to good use. |

My main point is why have to create 2 threads, waste extra time for something that can be implimented very easily. Oh and I wrote that like 10hrs ago but for some reason I was on a sitewide POST QUEUE |

Well, maybe we should see how it's implemented first before adding it? |

Ok I took a stab at it, the code should turn up in production shortly. If you upload, then if the post has [attachment=n] where n is 1 ... then that string will mark the point where the associated attachment displays, replacing the string. Although for formatting simplicity, the attachment always displays centered on a line by itself.
Any attachments that are not mentioned in the post in this way appear at the top as per normal. You can only inline an individual attachment once in the post body. So the maximum number of inline attachments displayed are limited to the number of attachments you upload. |

Just wanted to ask if others are seeing the "Caption" box under the [attachment=1] instead of on the right side. |

Hmmmm...that's where I see it...however, it's only on the original post. If I edit, the caption box is on the right side as usual. |

What I also found very nice is that you can edit the location of the attachment(s) without having to re-upload them. A definite plus! |

I'm confused....how can you change the location without re-uploading? Edit: Excuse my slowness, I wasn't thinking about them being numbered. That is too cool! Great idea you had. |

[attachment=2] Ignore the files themselves, they were the quickest thing I could find.. [attachment=1] on the desktop of the computer I use here in my digital art class. ------------------------------------------------------------ Here's how the text of SurfTheSky 's post above looks. |

In front of the field where your attachment's name goes next to the "Browse" button, it has "(attachment=1}", "(attachment=2)", and so on.
When you type your message, enter "(attachment=1)" in the location you want that image to show up.
* replace the parenthesis marks with brackets in posts |

Unless there's an attachment, you can write [attachment=1] or [attachment=2] without it disappearing. |

Re: Specify location of attachment within a postha, look what you can do now, i think you should disable being able to link the attachments (click for 'larger');)

Re: Specify location of attachment within a postI enjoy this new feature, and am grateful for it being implemented as well. Thank you SurfTheSky for the original suggestion, and thank you, Justin for approval. However, it does not seem to work in the Journals Forum. Any reason for that? (I can live without it there, but curious.) |
