Well....

Considering my last Bellsouth bill was $88 bucks, this sounds like a killer deal to me.

Try Broadvoice. For $10/mo. you can get unlimited in state calling and for $20/mo you get unlimited calling in the US. Not to mention you get pretty much every calling feature available. I signed up to be on the notification list when TW started advertising of the upcoming Digital Phone then I investigated and found many other cheap alternatives. I am a Broadvoice user now for over a month and love it. Can't beat the price or the call features. TW will only offer callwaiting, callerid, and callwaiting id. I would venture to say I have almost 15 call features with Broadvoice all for $10/mo. (I actually pay like $13 because I have a virtual number local to another city).

I pay $47/mo in service/fees/taxes to Bellsouth every month for a land line. I have no caller id, no long distance, no call waiting, nothing. I feel like royalty for having touch tone dialing for free now (used to charge a buck). I do have the expanded calling area to call 50+ miles from my home.

I'm anxiously waiting for TW to get service to my neck of the city so I can drop Bellsouth. For $39 and whatever fees, I get all the goodies (caller id, etc) and unlimited calling in the US and Canada.

Power is not a problem. With three APC Smart-UPS 1500's and a generator, I'll be fine. Our last major power outage (ice storm in 2002) took out our phones after 2 days.

I pay $75 a month to BellSouth for DSL and local and all ld with the features and everything else. I also get $10 a month off my DirecTv bill with there new plan. So, as I said, where are the BIG savings? I could care less if it is VoIp or other dialtone as long as I get my savings. I tried COX and they couldn't beat the BellSouth deal I have!!!
