3546 Config Question

I posted this on the Bellsouth forum, but didn't get much response.

Could someone post their configuration settings for a Cayman 3546 or send them to me.
I'm losing sync every two or three hours. This is a new modem, so I want to make sure I have it setup right.

When I run the diagnostics, I get this:

==== Checking Ethernet (LAN) Interface
Check Ethernet LAN connect : PASS
Check IP connect to Ethernet (LAN) : PASS
Check MAC-Bridge connect to Ethernet (LAN) : PASS

==== Checking DSL (WAN) Interfaces
Check DSL Synchronization : PASS
Check ATM Cell-Delineation : PASS
ATM OAM Segment Ping through (vcc1) : WARNING
*** Don't worry, your service provider may not support this test
ATM OAM End-To-End Ping through (vcc1) : WARNING
*** Don't worry, your service provider may not support this test
Check Ethernet connect to AAL5 (vcc1) : PASS
Check MAC-Bridge connect to Ethernet (vcc1) : PASS

These are my specs:

Downstream Upstream
Current Rate : 3008 Kbps 384 Kbps
Maximum Rate : 7712 Kbps 817 Kbps
Noise Margin : 16.5 dB 13.0 dB
Attenuation : 39.0 dB 26.0 dB
Out Power : 7.0 dB 2.0 B

Don't know how much you need, but here is the entire log.
Remember, I'm running this in bridged mode.
Thanks again.

what exactly is your setup? are you running another router behind the 3546 to handle the PPOE auth? if so, that may be your problem. the way i read your logs, you are setup for the 3546 to be on ppoe, yet it is not what is doing the login. did you follow the steps in »Cayman Routers »How do I setup the Cayman in Bridge Mode? for bridge mode? if you did, follow the steps in »Cayman Routers »How can I reset my Cayman's password? to reset the router to factory cause it sounds like it is confused!

Yep, read both of those, reset the Cayman to factory. I'm running a Linux router behind the modem.

I used the interface port to check and match all the settings on my 3220. There were a few that the 3220 didn't have so I just left them at default.

That is exactly the problem I am having, anywhere from 0 to about 6 times per day. Only since I upgraded to DSL Extreme.

Even stranger, my line stats were better yesterday than I have seen since upgrading to Extreme (higher max attainable rate and higher S/N ratio), but I got the problem about four times, yesterday. It does not happen at a regular time or at regular intervals. It sometimes happens when I am actively using the connection, but more often it occurs when there is no overt use.

have you had bellsouth check out the line AND the cards in the CO/RT?

i'm not sure why the 3546 didn't like true bridge mode. are you sure you followed all steps? i have been known to skip steps myself, but sometimes seemingly useless steps really do matter. if you did follow all steps, the only thing left that i know is to call in and report intermittent sync.

Bellsouth came out again today, and again, could find nothing.
I called Netopia, and they will be sending me a new modem. I will let you know if that works.

I'm having this same problem with "Link Los Failure" with BS and my 3546. I've got good line stats but I lose sync from time to time on BS Xtreme.

The new modem came, but still have same problem. When I leave the serial port cable attached, the modem is fine for days. It seems that when I disconnect it the problem shows up.

  How odd. What on earth would that have to do with it?

I never had a problem with BellSouth's 1500/256 with this 3546, but since I've gotten 3000/384, the modem just can't stay connected. I believe it is a fault somewhere in the modem that makes it lose connection. It's got to be the modem because my 3220 never blinks an eye on this same line.

@141.154.x.x

FYI... Encapsulation has nothing to do with DSL Sync. So whether you change it to RFC-1483, PPPoE, or even, PPPoA, it will not make a difference.

DSL Sync is at layer 1 of the OSI Model and Encapsulation is at Layer 2, So Layer 1 has to happen before Layer 2.
