You might wanna start googling as I have been.

I didn't have any luck googling. People have the same problem but no one seems to have a good fix. I will try what they suggested in that last link.

I did manage to burn another CD without errors after turning all the programs off that I could, but that still seems strange to me... I mean, I have 700 MB of free memory, how taxing can it be to burn a CD? Why would freeing up another 50MB make a difference?

I've never coastered a single CD or DVD on this computer before today, even when I was running 3 browser windows, e-mail, F@H, anti-virus, and a firewall while burning... that's why I assumed it was an iTunes issue and not a Windows issue.

Depending on the Virus protection software you have and if its scanning all the time, not sure why, but something about its guarding...not sure.

The truth is, depending on how you have your CD burner and drives set up and on what bus or cable they are at, these problems will arise, especailly, what im about to say is not meant to start any fights but, when using windows, this is common. Windows does not manage memory well at all. Just see how many resources and memory is used when you start IE. Also, most people do NOT have a clue that what is loaded by the clock is whats ACTUALLY running. This is another way in which things get all screwed up.
I also want to add that whenever you BURN on a windows machine you use a but load of resources and if trying to multitask, your better off not. On the flipside, Apples are masters at mulitasking and we tend to tout our ability.

Trust me when I say I know exactly what's running and how many resources are being used. Built from scratch and if I didn't install it, it ain't running. And as I said... never coastered a disc using Nero or Roxio in nearly a year, iTunes is the only one that has a problem. Just seems odd that Windows would suddenly be unable to burn a disc.

Just reinstalled iTunes, will see if that helps... I remembered that the last two times I had to reboot my computer it was because iTunes locked and crashed it hard. I'd forgotten since it's been a few weeks. So maybe it's a faulty installation. I just want to get all this stuff onto my new player so I can forget about it.

I totally understand Sarah. I used to be a windows user. I will be happy with you if this fixes it. There is always a possibility that iTunes might of messed something, but I HIGHLY doubt it with Apples campaign for iPod and the windows crowd. If it is, I see it similar to Quicktime not running so hot on a PC. The reason being is that Windows and Quicktime just do not work well.

I wouldn't say that. Windows manages memory fine. The problem is when a poorly programmed application or a curropt something does something funky, then Windows freaks out (where the Mac simply slows down until you Force Quit it). I've had 10.2.8 do the same kinda crap I've had happen to me in XP. OS X recovers better.

As with the CD Burning issues... if other programs are able to burn correctly, it may be an issue with iTunes or with iTunes and your hardware. I think iTunes uses a 3rd party service (or it used to, the gearsec service), so you might be dealing with an issue with the program.

If you want to convert your protected AAC files to MP3 for your MP3 player, you can also set an audio recorder to "listen" to "what's on my computer speakers" which makes the audio program capture the sound as it goes to the sound card. Great loophole for any protected audio format, but, everything has to be done in realtime, and some audio quality loss may occur. But since the other method you also loose audio quality, just the time difference is an issue.
