Whose house has moved recently?

I've been reading lately where numerous people have called to get the upgrade, only to find they have an additional 3000 on their line since the last time. If you've had a loop INCREASE please post it here.

Let's not get into a debate about EWL.

It seems that when this happens, it's always about 3000 feet added on. This isn't sunspots or a time of day issue.

For my example, I had an MLT done on my line when I signed up. It was run twice and came back at 15K feet. Now when I called in, two separate MLT's run on the line show that I am now 18800 Feet. I don’t even qualify for DSL anymore.

I got a “line” today from a supervisor that they sometimes add length to people’s lines to help others who can’t get DSL get it. And that I should be happy I even have DSL.

Steal from Peter to pay Paul? Not from my line you don’t.

Telling someone they should be happy, especially when I've now had to take other peoples loop length so they can get their DSL, is wrong. Its bad enough we pay the same price.

I’m not sure what it’s going to accomplish but it just sounds fishy.

If you've had a DRAMATIC loop INCREASE, please post it here.

I was 14000 feet when I was trying to get the 1.5/128 last year when it was released. Now when the 1.5/386 is rolled out recently and for they people below 15,000 feet all of a sudden when I called to get upgraded I'm 16,000 feet!

At first I was at the verge of around 12,000 feet, then 14,000 feet and now 16,000 feet. DOES NOT MAKE SENSE AT ALL. Am I gonna be like 30,000 in 3 years from now or something? This is redicoulous.

Summary:
Past | 10,000-12,000 ===> 14,000 ===> 16,000 | Present

At the beginning of May I was at 12,400. Now they are trying to tell me I am at 18,000 exactly. I am physically only about 9,000 feet from the CO. I'm giving them a week before I give up on VOL altogether and go the cable route.

I hear ya brother...

I got the line that "We're always making improvements, so eventually you will get the speed increase sir".

Lady, by the time your next loop length extension comes out, my line is going to be in the next F--king town.

3800 Feet! Maybe it's coiled up somewhere in my basement, I better go check.

Prediction for my future length:

2002-2003: 10,000-12,000 feet
Late 2003: 14,000 feet
2004: 16,000 feet
...
2007: 20,000 Feet

Looks like my house is moving farther away from the CO atleast to Verizon it seems. Even though I should be around 12,000 feet.

How about we both move to cable now?
The only thing that sucks about cable is that it isnt as stable and is capped. Oh well I should live with it until Verizon cleans up their mess.

Actually I'm giving Verizon 2 more months... Let's see, I'll be calling again tomorrow to confirm I cannot get the upgrades. 1/3 say I can get it and then the other says I can't...

back in about 1999 my EWL was 24,000 feet, my current EWL is approxamately 10,000 feet, same CO, same line....it happens both ways. You guys happen to be on the short end of the maintenance stick and I feel for you. I luckily got the better end of the maintenance bargain

I guess that I shouldn't complain that since August '03 my loop length has steadily decreased from 27,000 to 25,000 in December to 22,000 in March.

Be glad that you have DSL, I have Adelphia and though it's been improving, something tells me that something is going to go haywire with Powerlink... mostly likely that they'll bought buy Comcrap.

When the 1.5MB/128 plan was first rolled out, i was at 12,800ft. I'd call back every few months or so just to check and it was 12,800ft each time. Tried haggling with them over the 800ft. Of course they'd never budge.

I called in last month just to check again and it suddenly jumped to 14,400ft. So i'm in the same boat as you. Well sort of heh.

I went from 13 or 14,0000 ft. or so in 2000, and have now worked my way up to 16,400 ft.; just far enough to be in limbo and stuck at 768/128.

Has anyone considered the legality of screwing up a customer's dsl line? If someone is receiving the full download offered, and Verizon does something to cut the speed back to 768/128, is this a reasonable business practice? Does Verizon have any responsibility to it's customers?

I am having Cox installed Tuesday. If all goes well, I will cancel VOL next week.

On Monday May 17 I was at 12600' from CO.
I called Thursday May 20 about the upgrade and they say I'm at 18760 and I shouldn't even have the 768/128 that I currently get.
I moved 6100' in three days.
My house is trying to break the land speed record for brick ranchers.

I was told I was 17,900 from the CO, and probably shouldn't have DSL at all. I get about 695/131. Then get transferred to another dept, and am told I am over 21k ft.

Went on to customer relations to dig deeper, no call back yet from them. I'm not expecting one either.

Comcast has a great deal right now, free modem, $20 for 3 months, $50 rebate....if I don't hear anything from VOL today, it's time to switch.

The mysterious thing here is that when it INCREASES, it's always around 3000 feet.

Like I brought up in earlier posts, I imagine all Verizon has done is become more liberal on the distance requirement to get 1.5. There has been no major hardware upgrade all across the country.

At the same time, in my crazy conspiracy theory, they are adding 3000 to everyone’s loop length so they don't have to deal with it when it breaks because the line won’t support it.

I'm in the same boat here.

For as long as i can remember i was at 12000. Yesterday i called VOL twice and they both said two different numbers. One said 14k and one said 16k. Thats kinda crazy...

I'm not sure what I had initially (obviously was under 18k feet as they hooked me up with no issue), but subsequent testing placed me at 22k+...interestingly enough I get good, consistant speed test results out here so "far" away(720/131).

Seems like we both have the exact same problem.
This problem should be released as a news problem on the frontpage of this site as an issue with Verizon. Everyone try to mark this as a news-worthy topic, we must let everyone know about this issue.

By the way this site tells me I'm 9000 feet. Don't you think Verizon's ÖFFICAL estimate is a bit too high?

BBR: 9,000 feet. VOL: 16,000
