I just cancelled Verizon yesterday and cited forced bundling. The customer service rep on the phone admitted that quite a few people are pleased with the service and price of DSL but aren't happy with having to pay an additional $20 for an unlisted voice line. It simply makes them uncompetitive. With Verizon's increase to 1500/384 for the $30-$35 residential package, it certainly opens the door for them to offer their own VoIP services packaged with DSL. That would certainly be something I would consider if their VoIP was priced on par with competitors like VoicePulse, Broadvoice and Vonage. -- 10.98@121 |

| Personally I think its a great idea and I hope Verizon follows through. I first got DSL with VZ about 3 years ago then switched to Comcast HSI after two years because I wanted to not have a land line becaues I use my mobile for all my calls.
Then this year when I moved I switched back to VZ DSL because it was so much cheaper than Comcast and although Comcast was fast I truly don't need a super fast connection to read articles, send email and watch vidoes.
So I love my VZ DSL but would love it more without the landline attached. |

| reply to GNXPower I've heard this from my reseller as well, so it is more than just a rumor. The question yet unanswered is if Verizon will let the resellers provide service on a dry pair, or if they will keep that option to themselves. -- AMD 2600+M @2684mhz/ DFI Infinity II Ultra/ 2x 512Mb Kingston HyperX PC3500/ WD 120Gb on serial/ Gainward GF4 4600/ Antec 550 True Control/Custom water cooler |

I'm about to the do same. It just makes no sense and puts more money in Verizon's pocket. -- My crappy website ::: »www.ruscorpx.org |

Don't get too excited yet, this is all speculation. Verizon always likes to talk big but when it comes to delivering on the goods they are always lacking. Look at the recent "upgrade" they are offering. My conspiracy-minded side says that they "moved" all their customers further away from the CO just so they would not need to do any actual upgrades, but I'm chalking that up to a massive database error instead.
I'm just wondering how many DSL customers are going to be knocked offline when they call to cancel their phone service. Nothing Verizon does ever runs smoothly, I can't imagine they will make it easy for you to cancel your phone line. -- Keep America Strong! Bush/Cheney 2004 |

I'd love to be able to have my SpeakEasy service without having to have Verizon local service (especially if I could transfer my home phone number to a cell phone).
