I believe he is looking for a way to visibly see radio waves. Similar to bullet tracers. I could be mistaken.

ah...well i completely missed the boat on that one! Why don't you just secure your network....that way you know only authorized users are using it. There is no easy way to physically locate a client on your network. Even with tools like kismet or netstumbler, you will just see MAC addresses and IP addresses of the clients, not physical locations. You can physically locate (to a general proximity) APs using things like GPSdrive.

GPS works through ranging, sometimes called trilateration.

If you only use windows based systems I believe netstumbler does something similar.

Actually, GPS works by comparing signals from various satellites. All the satellites are synched and broadcast repeating signals at the same instant. These arrive at the receiver nanoseconds apart, but it can still compute your location since it knows the position of each satellite at any given moment.
