Well ChrisFF seems to have located the problem. Unfortunatley, it seems there is no quick fix available. I'll keep checking Motorola's web page for firmware updates, but I do not expect any help there. Since I "bought" this modem from Rogers, is there any chance of exchanging it for a Toshiba or something? When I got the modem, I was pleased, as most posters were hoping for the Motorola SB5100; looks like they were wrong . |

| reply to ChrisFF Looks like ChrisFF has found the problem, but I have no way to fix it I'll check the web for firmware updates to the Moto SB5100, but I do not expect any luck there. And to think, people told me I was lucky to get this modem when I signed up for Extreme (BTW, this took me 2 tries to post, because my BT client is using up a whooping 15k down/20k up, and the browser timed out while posting ) |

| reply to vybe232 For anyone having slow torrent issues - are you sure you aren't having the same issue as the "upload cripples downloads"? I have the problem where, when achieving my max upload, I can't even load web pages. There is a very big issue in some areas with bidirectional transfers - uploading kills downloading - big time. I notice this in my torrents too. BUT - when I first got extreme I could upload a torrent at 80 KB/s and still download at 300KB/s +. Try using an ftp program (I get the best speeds with cute ftp) to upload somewhere, then while uploading, try and download - you may realize this is not a "torrent" issue, but a "bi-directional transfer" issue - just a suggestion.... |

| reply to vybe232 I had this "bi-direction transfer" issue when I was with Bell Sympatico DSL in Kingston, but never with cable modem. In the beginning everything was fine too, then the disconnects got more frequent. Here is my thread if anyone is interested ...

That's not it.... Download sucked even if i'm uploading at 10kb/s..or less So there's definately something fishy going on with rogers.. -- Pinging www.rogers.com [142.146.40.100] with 32 bytes of data:

| reply to vybe232 I agree with hereto, its not a bittorrent problem per-se. Its actually 'multiple upstream TCP connections cause massive service degrataion'.
I see some people have had success it getting Rogers to fix whatever it was. Ill try plugging my SB5100 back in and see if its fixed for me.
BTW: You guys cant upgrade your firmware, nor will you find any firmware released publicly available on the web. It must be done from Rogers end or from a serial connection. (which is probably not built into the production boards and even if it were probably requires a slightly custom dongle)
I dont think its really a firmware problem so much as a RF misconfiguration problem. |

@cable.rogers | reply to vybe232 It works @ first, but slowly degrades and eventually kills my internet (for most applications).
Using SB5100
Is the only solution to try a trade for the toshiba cable modem? |
