Done.

For #2 do you have freeav as a choice?

I didn't see it so i choose Another Anti-Virus (not listed here)

FreeAV? If you mean FreeAV from H+BEDV (AntiVir) [»www.free-av.de] than you had to select H+B EDV AntiVir. If not, "Another Anti-Virus (not listed here)".

#7 has an * by it(required) but I have never been infected... so I cannot answer that "required" question.

EDIT: #12 I do not understand what is being asked... "Did you ever download or searched malicious software by yourself on Internet?"

Do you mean, have I ever downloaded infected software or have I ever searched *for* infected software? I have downloaded infected software before, or atleast tried to download... avast!4 kills the download when malicious files are detected.

I like the poll, but for this one:
7. If you ever got infected, how did the virus usually reach your computer?

You need to add an option for: I have never been infected.
or at least give the poll taker the option to not answer that one.

#7: yes, its an error in the survey but I will not fix it. Select "I do not know", or select by "mail" if you got a virus but your scanner deleted it before you got infected.

#12: this does mean if you did download or search with INTENTION a malicoius software.

#15: it means if you want that your scanner does detect also viruses that does run only under DOS systems and does not work anymore on e.g. WinXP. Do you want that your scanner does detect such viruses even if such files are now harmless for you on your system (cause they will not run).

"#7: yes, its an error in the survey but I will not fix it.

Then it is a flawed survey and will result in flawed results. I will NOT select an answer that does not apply and that will infer that I have been infected, when in fact I have not.

So, I guess I will not be taking your survey, thanks anyways.

The survey is also flawed in allowing multiple submissions from the same computer. I kept clicking on the "submit" button and values in the survey I entered were incremented each time.

Thus, you should consider locking down the survey via cookies, session variables, IP Address, or all the above to do a better job of reducing multiple submissions from the same computer.

@dadkins:
I will not change it, because those minimal errors are in questions that are now not of interest anymore for me. If I change it now, I will lose all answers and much time. But you are of course free to do not participate to the survey

@anthrorules:
there is a security lock implemented in order to avoid such things. Its unusual that someone submit twice or more times, please do not do that. Anyway it is possible to trick any lock; one is implemented and should be enough for most users.

Then, apparently, all of your previous surveys/results are wrong...and should not be trusted.

If the questions are not of interest to you, why are they in the survey? ...and if you lose all answers to these questions, that are not of interest, what will it matter?

Good idea, bad implementation. People are taking your results to heart and purchasing AV products that have false ratings, based on your findings.

I am relatively certain that I am not the only one that sees this. If you have a security lock in place to prevent someone from making multiple submissions, and it isn't working, then your results have even less credibility.

I would like to see and participate in a trustworthy survey, let us know when you fix these flaws.

I totally agree!

You can basically discount at least 15 of the submissions as I did submit my results 15 times. Why? Because any time I do an online survey, I test to see how reliable the results are, and if I see results incrementing with multiple submissions from the same computer and user, then I definitely won't take the survey results very seriously.

Your survey is highly flawed and the results like any other survey, should be taken with a grain of salt and in this case a ton of salt.

the double submissions were deleted. I will see if next week I find time to implement a second security, so that people that have nothing better to do will not submit more than one time.
@dadkins: if you prefer next time I will not make the survey results avaiable so only I will see the results that are still of interest for me.
The test results have nothing to do with the survey results. And anyway if you read everything, you should know that I would never invite anyone to purchase a product only based on the results that products gets in my tests, as all tested products are very good in my eyes, customers should take more care on other things.
But maybe you would prefer that also the results are only made avaiable to the AV companies and not to the public. Well, not all does think like you I think/hope.
@both: ok, thanks for putting again my attention to the survey, I will see what I can do, but it will have low priority for me. Now forget my survey and search "security flaws" in other surveys please ;-P

Rather odd that you come here to ask people here to take your survey and then somwehat abruptly dismiss recommendations that could improve the survey's methodology. Just another case of GIGO? If you're not intending to do it well, perhaps it's better not to do it at all.

I hope you're more stringent regarding the methodologies used in the other work you present to the public.

I did the survey but also had difficulty with #7. I put "other" rather than what you suggested, so after rereading this thread, I know I should have "mail". However, that too would seem to be flawed and would skew the results as I've never really had a virus so was never infected, period. I felt that the "other" option might have been never having been infected, so that seemed to be the only choice...however, it certainly wasn't obvious.

I think, that if you will read this thread, you will see that I am not the only person that feels your survey is(for lack of a better word) flawed. If your "security" against multiple submissions is the same as you have been using in the past... well, you do the math.

I don't prefer anything, except that people have and will continue reading your findings and base their purchases on them...all the while they are skewed. That is not a good thing, and will cause people problems.

I call things as I see them, it doesn't matter who's item is in question. I have, on several occasions, pointed out problems with major software reviewers/manufacturers. Wrong is wrong, and I will say something...sorry.

Good luck in your ventures, either way.

I was trying to provide some constructive criticism about your survey tool. I sure hope that you're more professional with your actual work pursuits.

One more thing, you may consider providing a DRAFT of your survey to a set of "testers" who can provide feedback about the wording of your questions and answers, and fine tune it before you make it available to a more general audience.

To be honest, I have problems with how you've worded many of your questions, and the answers don't make much sense, as mentioned with Question #7, as one example. Also, you should be more specific about versions of AV software, like whether it's freeware or not, like with AVG free or paid professional version, that IMO, makes a difference in terms of what people use.

For those who are less knowledgeable about security products, I sure hope that you do NOT use this survey results as a tool in making your decision on what AV or security product to use.
