What do we need HDTV for ?

Can anyone explain to me why we should upgrade to HDTV? I currently have a Samsung digital tv connected to the satellite and the picture is fine. I don't really want to see the acne scars on peoples faces my picture quality is just fine. How much better do we really want it to go ? Cable should stop investing in HDTV because I don't think it will ever catch on, they are better off with VOIP, OnDemand, and Broadband.

I have to disagree i think HDTV will catch on its just a matter of time. A HDTV picture is many times better than a digital picture and once prices of the tvs and HDTV service go down for the consumers manfactures and providers I eventually see all channels broadcast in some form of HDTV

Kommie,

If you like sports and get the chance to watch it in HDTV, you won't want to live without it. Just trust me.

kommie is a dingleberry. your response is the reason why i lose respect for people. i have not heard of any person not wanting HD because of acne scars. yikes. if you have ever actually seen sports or the academy awards in HD you wouldnt mind "acne scars" whatever they are.

Maybe if your mind expanded a little outside your tv set you would understand what I was saying about the acne scars.

Here is a article:

Quote from the article:
"In HDTV, you're seeing everything," says Tommy Cole, a veteran Hollywood makeup artist who worked on sitcoms such as "Evening Shade" and "Designing Women." "Just as other things are more clear, so are blemishes and wrinkles."

I don't give a damn about the acne scars I just don't see why we need to have a better picture. Its already excellent how much better do we want it to be.

Re: Hdtv.

well considering i have seen Pamela Anderson on Jay Leno and all of its 1080i glory and didnt see anything on her, i dont think this make-up artist knows what he is talking about. but im sure being makeup artist on shows from the 80's means he is an expert on the subject of hdtv. YIKES

Well, you ARE a dingleberry.
You sure are one to talk about "mind expansion".
You are a NUB. Have fun watching your tv set with the same technology from 1955 for the rest of your life. YIKES. ERROR.

Oh, yeah. HDTV will never catch on? Where the hell are you living? HDTV has been catching on LOTS on the past couple of years.

Stop hating us cause you're a manager at mcdonalds and can only afford that magnavox you got in 1990 with an RF jack as the only inputs. Have fun in 2006 when your horrid analog channels get turned off having to buy an hdtv tuner and hooking it up to your magnavox RF jack.

I don't care about it. I don't care what you can afford or cant. I just don't see why cable companies need to be forced to upgrade to a useless crap like hdtv that only gives technogeeks like you a turn on. And just for your information a McDonald's manager in most locations makes well over 100k a year so don't bash those workers.

And to expand your mind a bit more the tv i am using is not from 1955 its a digital tv(along with other additions) and has the 720i input in the back. If you want new technology invest your money in something usefull. HDTV is not that!!! I don't see Europe adopting it or Japan.

yea japan didnt adopt it. oh wait one second, "Japan had the earliest working HDTV system, with design efforts going back to 1979. Japan began broadcasting analog HDTV signals in the early 1990s using an interlaced resolution of 1035 lines (1035i)." YIKES. oh and europe, "The EEC (later, the EU) established a European standard for HDTV in a 1986 directive (MAC)." YIKES. good thing you have no clue what you are talking about.

Props to nez's post.

If you read again you might realize i said technology from 1955. We've been using interlace scan 60hz for 50 damn years. Horrid.

Come to the Northeast and ask a MacDonalds MANAGER( NOT THE ASSISTANT) what he makes. They usally make from 60 to 120 depending on how many MacDonalds they manage.

Yeah really then what about the people who use their PC Monitors as their TV ? What about color ? Hell what about the reomote control the TV might be based on technology from the 1950s but it is not.

Look at the automobile the wheel has been used since the dawn of civilization oh no were still using technology from the cavemen. Horrid.

I dont know why everybody is getting on kommie for, because he is right. HDtv Is Expensive, and a waste. A GREAT looking waste, but a waste of money none the less. 10,000/5,000 on a tv= crazy unless you make alot of money. Im want and will most likely be getting a Hdtv set but it wont be in the thousands
