Spybot Question

I told spybot to not detect Backweb because I didn't know what backweb was. Now I want to delete it and I can't figure out how to make it detect and delete. How do I do this? Thanks.

Danny

Switch to advanced mode, and select the settings/ignore_* entry that contains the program and uncheck it.

If it's on the Revision tab in Ignore products then uncheck and rescan. It could also be in the ignore single entries. If it's there, highlight and right click on it and select exclude from list, then rescan.

Open your ignore list in Adaware, checkmark the item(s) you want to remove and press the *remove* button. This removes it from your ignore list and Adaware should then detect it again on a scan.

I have these 5 entries. Any clues on what they are or whether I should delete them?

Hey palbri See Profile....the DSO Exploit is a known bug and will be fixed in an upcoming update.

quote:
That's just a bug in the current version of Spybot which should be fixed in a while. There's actually quite a number of topics on that here because everyone is seeing it if they didn't previously disable the related IE setting. This thread explains it in a lot of detail:
Found @ Spybot's Official Forum here---> dso exploit, spybot keeps finding dso exploit

The different faces of Backweb:

»F-Secure and Backweb lite

»Backweb lite

»BackWeb Client Version 6.1.4

It depends on which programs you are running. You are correct not to remove it until you verify that your antivirus software or some other necessary program is not using it for updating.

My Kodak Digital Camera would like to use Backweb to watch for software updates but I have auto update turned off.

Backweb can slow down even a fast computer. I do have Kodak's web site book marked so if there are any updates I can get them there.

Overview
Backweb is a generic, background downloading tool that software vendors can incorporate into their product to download data (e.g. product updates) to the user's PC. Its operation depends on the instructions given to it by the individual software vendor who bundles it. While this software has been neither exhonorated nor convicted of malice, some aspects of its installation and operation appear suspect. Additionally, some users have associated it with the appearance of unwanted advertising windows. Source

What is F-Secure BackWeb™?

With F-Secure BackWeb users can get antivirus database updates and informational content without interrupting their work to wait for files to download from the Web. F-Secure BackWeb downloads files automatically in the background using bandwidth not being used by other Internet applications, so the users can always be sure they will have the latest updates without having to search the Web.

If the F-Secure BackWeb client is always connected to the Internet, it will automatically receive new antivirus updates within about two hours after they have been published by F-Secure. Any possible delays will depend on when a connection to the Internet is available.

F-Secure BackWeb client is used to update either centrally managed or stand-alone F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.x. By default the client also downloads Computer Virus News and F-Secure News. Downloading these can be disabled if so desired.

F-Secure BackWeb can be installed in Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

You may install and use F-Secure BackWeb in conjunction with licensed F-Secure Anti-Virus and security products. F-Secure BackWeb shall be used only for receiving updates and related information on F-Secure's antivirus and security products. F-Secure BackWeb may not be used for any other purpose or service. "BackWeb" is a trademark of BackWeb Technologies.

NOTE: In order to use F-Secure BackWeb to get antivirus updates, you must have F-Secure Anti-Virus Release 5.00 build 5271 or newer.
