| Not going crazy after all All this time I thought that I was going crazy... I have a couple of laptops that I can site right next to my AP or Router and there will be 100% signal strength then all the sudden XP says the connection was dropped, a couple of seconds later it comes right back. It is even worse if I have WEP enabled.

| Re: Not going crazy after all Dude I feel your pain, I formated my laptop cause I was having the problem, and sure enough it came right back. I felt like a @#$@#% after all that, and backing up all my mp3's, and pirated divx movies just to waste time. It really sucks, but its M$.
Another thing that drives me crazy is when the connection is dropped, and it comes back up without an ip address, just the default 169 bullcrap, even though I have great signal. To fix this, it requires you to reboot, and cross your fingers. -- "Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising everytime we fall." - Confucius - - - - - - - - - - - Streamfire.net- - AIM - CoNFuCiUsNiCk

| Dealing with this issue right now!
Dell Inspiron Laptop, new. Installed Linksys 54G card. Worked great for about 2 weeks. One morning the laptop gets turned on and it can't connect right away. Takes it over a minute, and it's on and off all day, all by itself. The activity LED on the PCCArd appears to have long gaps of no connectivity during large file transfers. Even if I turn off all security on my WRTG54S router and turn SSID on, the Dell Laptop only 'sees' an available signal part of the time, this all the while the laptop is 4 feet from the router.
I have been going crazy trying to troubleshoot this. GAD! Hope MS owns up to this, and offers a fix. BTW, this same card in a Win98se laptop is rock solid.

| I have the exact same problem with my XP laptop, especially since I have enabled WEP on my Linksys AP. We've always had problems with Wifi in our home, and its time for someone to take some accountability here and stop using blame and giving the runaround. | |
