NyQuil Kid8f The Nyquil Kid join:2001-01-06 Brick, NJ 1 edit | Public AntiVirus CD 3.65 Available for Download I am making publicly available my bootable AntiVirus CD. I basically made it because I wanted to be able to scan for viral infection without loading Windows (at least for now)
Also, I posted to the Security Forum; if my cross post violates any rules, please let me know - I don't want to violate any TOS, etc - thanks!
Currently at version 3.65, here are some of the attributes:
1) Bootable CD boots into DOS (using a modified Win9x floppy emulation) and can mount and scan NTFS formatted drives
2) Runs McAfee's freely available command line scanner; this scanner will scan and log viral infections, trojans and some spyware. It will attempt to clean, then rename or delete the infected files. It will create both a text and HTML file that you can view afterwards
3) Menu driven and automated; works on approximately 98% of all PC's (some older computers do not like the XMSDISK Ram Drive being used)
4) AVCD is in ISO format, so you can burn using Roxio or Nero; it has been compressed into zip format (roughly 97megs in size)
5) After scan is complete, CD will autoeject and reboot system; it is recommended that you enter Safe Mode (on Win2K or XP machines) in order to install and run Spyware programs like SpyBot and Ad-Aware
- NOTE: As far as I have seen, Win9x does not support CD-ROM's in safe mode
6) Within Windows, AVCD will autorun and load an index.htm file, allowing you to click and install Anti-Spyware programs, review the log files (both text and HTML formats) and run Symantec FixTools for various viral infections
Usually, I will have an FTP server running at the following address:
nyquil-kid.dyndns.org username: public password: 8fj00su
Please note the following:
1) I am not a programmer, so please forgive any messy batch code
2) The FTP server is online most of the day, but not always - feel free to email at nyquil_kid@hotmail.com or PM me
3) The FTP account only allows for read access on that file, so please don't try to HAX0R'Z my system
4) I am constantly updating the AVCD, so look for updates
5) While I employ this CD daily on many machines, I am *NOT* responsible for what happens to your system!
Thanks!

1) CD will autoeject and pause to allow the user to remove the CD before rebooting the computer
2) Fixed typo in one of the display messages

I booted the CD on my win2k system and it worked pretty good.
However, when I took it to my friends house, and booted it on his system, when it got to the point where it was trying to create the ramdrive, it failed.
I tried it like 3 times and the same problem came up each time.
Interestingly enough, however, if I ran the command to create the ramdrive manually it worked. So I deleted the ramdrive and then just re-executed the autoexec.bat file without rebooting and it worked after that.
I think that maybe it might have something to do with the loadhigh statement. Is there a specific reason why you wanted it to be loaded into upper memory? The guy has 384mb of ram, but it just wouldn't work without this manual intervention I did.

NyQuil Kid8f The Nyquil Kid join:2001-01-06 Brick, NJ 1 edit | No not sure; glad that it worked manually, but for some reason some computers don't like the XMSDisk RAM Drive I run....
Why do you think its the loadhigh statement? Is there any reason I shouldn't load it there?
EDIT: As a test, I removed the loadhigh and used load; the RAM drive failed; it appears to require the loadhigh command - I'll keep looking into for you.
Thanks!

NyQuil Kid8f The Nyquil Kid join:2001-01-06 Brick, NJ | reply to FutureMon Hi there:
The XMSDSK driver can be loaded into autoexec.bat or config.sys; from what I know, if you load in config.sys, it will grab the first letter for itself ( C: ); I prefer to statically assign the letter for the RAM drive, R:, so that it is easy to remember.
If I attempt to load xmsdsk without the loadhigh statement, the RAMDisk fails.
I will be looking at other RAMDisks just in case, but roughly 98% of computers work fine with the CD as is.
Thanks again for the heads up.
