call an HVAC installation company... get good airflow and remove all cloth from the room! keep the room between 30 and 50º and nothing should stay airborne. keep the air moving, too, just in case. you can't get *rid* of dust but you can fight it; tile floors, cold climate and sealed doors/windows help too but that's only when you have the cash.

Re: Post your network diagrams here..

I'll post mine once I get home.

But jebus, you guys with cisco hardware must get paid well or get some crazy ass deals. Granted I got my hands on a 2501 (no longer supported), but still. Some of these networks make me want to cry.

Currently:

The core routers and the firewall's use OSPF to distribute routes to one another. The firewalls have a VRRP (CARP) interface on the side with the edge router for High Availability. On the side facing the Core Router as they use OSPF they can't use VRRP (CARP) so I use routing metrics to provide high availability. All the VLAN's are on the same Cisco Cat 2950.

Planned Upgrades:

I have a Cisco 2610 and Ethernet module on order to replace the 2500. Currently the 2500 only does static 1-to-1 NAT and not much more, it was mainly put in place so I could place more with IOS. I have more plans for the 2610....

The Experimental OSPF Router is an OpenBSD box with a couple NICs that is going to be the backup for the Core Router until I get my Cisco 2620 with multiple ethernet ports on it. OSPF metrics will be used to provide failover.

Assuming I know you from school due to the D-Link access points and that lovely Sheridan laptop called Lappy, I am intrigued by your network infrastructure .. it's sophisticated for a typical home user but then again how else are we going to learn networking without going above and beyond everyone else

Everything from what I am seeing is fine and dandy, but I am confused on why there is 2 firewalls between the 2 routers? My initial thoughts were to somehow load balance traffic from one wire into 2, but I dont even know thats possible (since I am not experienced with Cisco shit), but I would love to hear your answer.

Thanks,

Deep Dish

P.S.
I'm the dude with the same R51 as you, however it's got Linux, a whole lotta RAM and a whole lotta HD space then you

The firewalls can load balance, however in their present config they simply work in high availability mode. The firewalls create a virtual MAC/IP address that they share. They have a configured priority used to elect a master. The master then responds to all requests made for the virtual IP address, while sending a heartbeat to the secondary firewall. If the master goes down the secondary takes over. Cisco's implementation of this technology is HSRP (might as well be VRRP as well). I use the OpenBSD groups version of it, CARP. the router on the inside routes between all the internal networks (one for routers, one for the LAN, and one for wireless). The external routers sole job is maintaining the cable connection. The external is a Cisco 2502, which is incredibly stable. I've never had it drop the connection for any reason, and whenever the connection goes out is always reestablishes instantly. I hope that answers all your questions .
