Satoru Iwata hinted at something more at E3. THis was after he was talking about the DS. I just hope it isn't something stupid. |

| Hmmm, I would like to see a few improvements myself. Granted, it was a pretty cutting edge design on the GC but it came up a little short on a few key factors.
Sorry, but ATI just does not belong in a console system. But that is just an opinion. Don't hurt me too badly on that front.
Second: Just WHAT were they thinking; putting those mini DVD drives in those things? Why not put a full blooded DVD with movie playback in the unit?
Third: Loads of accessory slots and high speed bus architecture to put other consoles to shame! But no integrated Ethernet port? Well, nobody else really integrated it either. PS-2 and X-Box still require a "kit" to get online through your broadband.
Fourth: Really gritty, nasty, ugly action is still not on the GC. Nintendo has to drop the fear of marketability to children and families and give us titles with FANGS!
The list goes on, but these are my major sticking points with the current offering from Nintendo. Perhaps we will see a change for something a lot more robust in features and titles. -- Nothwest Arkansas' ONLY all Techno Radio Webcast, powered by SBC DSL! |

Sorry, you'll have to qualify your opinion on this one. Why don't they belong in a console? I hope MS knows this since they [ATI] are doing the graphics for XBox 2. Besides that, ATI didn't even make the graphics processor for the Gamecube. A company called ArtX did. ATI bought them out shortly after the Gamecube started hitting production lines.

Piracy. And compared to MS and Sony, it is working quite well.

That is completely subjective. While first party titles retain the cutesy-pie feel, third party titles have all the blood and guts you could want. Resident Evil, Splinter Cell, Eternal Darkness, etc. |

If the idea is to bring home the feel and look of arcade class systems and frame rates, there are other manufacturers that have reduced multi-chipset graphics engines down to a single chip configuration. (Look at Oxygene Graphics Systems, and how they turned a multi-backplane "Magic Carpet" GPU into a twin chip solution so cheap, PS-2 got based on it. When not saddled with having to run at the reduced RS based systems' FSB, you are talking about an original product specification that did 85 Million triangles/sec in the late 80's!)
Some of these industrial GPU's see very happy lives in heavily graphical PC Workstations, SGi, and Sun Microsystems. Mass use of these "Industry grade" GPU's will not only bring down the price, but pump up longevity of the product.
Further reducing mass produced GPU cores from a retail class product into something locked into a console with no hopes of an upgrade is just... disheartening. What may be a world class desktop chip eventually turns into a soggy potato chip in a console. (Maybe when we can swap parts in a console I will shut up)
Do not get me wrong, I was not ATI or nVidia bashing or anything like that. Using COTS components in cutting edge machinery leads ultimately to a pre-mature death, especially in a closed system like a console. Go for the top notch GPU array and then work with that to bring it to the consumer cheap and with reduced power demands. (So it runs cool on a system's built-in and compact switching power supply)

Not when one can buy DVD+R media in mini-DVD.

All are PC titles and frankly - my particular home PC system for gaming does a good job of rendering those titles. I can go on to say that I can emulate any console under the sun, from the first to the last, latest and greatest. In short, I want to see a console I cannot emulate on a PC platform, and do things a PC cannot do. That's when I will grab for the wallet and pay out bucks.
Are you listening to me Nintendo? Your goal is not to make a bigger, better console. It's a battle to get *my* dollar. The *only* way you are going to get it is to pull something truly innovative out of your design lab that cannot easily be imitated.
Edit: For grammar and other things that spell checkers do not look for. |

The gods (gamecube optical disc) are not dvds. Pirtating is a little harder than that. If you have a broadband adapter, pso, a lan, and a computer, you might be able to load a game from the computer.

Well, it might be a little hard to emulate the DS's touch screen. |

You cannot copy a GameCube disc onto a mini DVD+R and get it to work in the GameCube system. -- Where can I run? How can I hide the Silmarils? Gems of treelight, their life belongs to me. Oh it's sweet how the darkness is floating around. |

The mini-CD thingy was an attempt to thwart piracy. Whether it was effective or the GC just sucked too bad to be worth pirates' time is anyone's guess, but I haven't seen any GC piracy going around.
The Xbox does not require a kit to get online, only a subscription; you can get it out of the box and hook it up to your DSL modem/router. The Xbox Live Kit you're thinking of only enhances the online experience by providing a headset with mic. -- SBC DSL Tech Support. |

If you actually knew what you were talking about you'd realize that statement was completely false. You can not copy anything that crosses your 'paws'. Your statement is ignorant and incorrect, pure and simple. |

| I need to look up more on the GC disc specs. Apparently, I did make a boo-boo with my above statement. All I have been able to find thus far is how to load the ROM image files via TCP/IP network, but nothing on getting the data duplicated disc to disc. Gimmie enough time - I will find a solution. -- Nothwest Arkansas' ONLY all Techno Radio Webcast, powered by SBC DSL! |
