I'm posting this in the expectation that our good friend Travis will respond, as he seems to do quite a bit (cheers to that, by the way.)
Anyhow, there's a few things I'd like to check up on:
I'm currently using your Powergate Plus service - 6000/800 which at times definately works as advertised. However, just now at 1:30pm I tried to get a download from your downloads.powergate.ca page and I couldn't break 300k.
Doing a bit of a ping test I see it can drop as low as 8ms and randomly spike up to and over 100ms occasionally. I've got an Ericcson Docsis modem here.
A few other q's as well - What exactly is the newsgroup limit? On another note, I almost shat when I saw your newsgroup provider was Giganews! Cheers to good taste in NG providers. Giganews is my 'paid' provider whom I purchase 10gig a month from for fills and the like - however, it seems my access to them has been cut off.
I'll be flat honest here - I am a heavy user, no matter how you look at it - In fact, given the opportunity I'm sure I could probably rank #1 in used bandwidth for your company. I'm sure that's not what you look for necessarily, but what I'm saying is that I like your service, I like the fact that it's not Rogers or Sympatico (give the lil guy a chance eh people?) - And I'd be willing to toss more moneys your way to keep us both happy. So bridge the gap, what can I do to keep those nasty limits away from me and my account?
Anyhow - If you could fill me in on this, I'd appreciate it.

TIA,

| Can you register and PM me your address? I've found your modem but the database isn't showing me your address to see if there's any problems we could tie to your location.
Where are you pinging?
The newsgroup limit is something like 3-4 GB. Not 100% sure, but I'll find out the exact amount.
As for use, by the looks of things you're not anywhere close to the top user - #21 thus far for June. At your current pace, I wouldn't worry at all about us sweating you on your use.
I'll get one of our techs looking at your issues if you can get your name/address to me.

| Turned out I had this account previously registered -
I was pinging the downloads.powergate.ca address for those results earlier. Ran a few speed tests mid afternoon and the best I could pull was 3mbps.
For newsgroups; is there anything I can do to get unmetered access to those? A daily cap? If it's doable, I'd be interested in doing
Should be a PM with the other info waiting in your box, thanks for the quick reply.

| reply to ralexander Well, to get unmetered access to the newsgroups we'd have to install a RADIUS server and come up with a cost structure for the service. It's something we've talked about, but there hasn't been great demand for it so it's been fairly low on the priority scale. What would you pay for something like that? |

| I'm shelling out $13 USD to Giganews themselves for access right now - I'd be willing to give you at least that in addition to my net fees. Without knowing what your cost is for a Giga ISP account, I'm just sort've poking here in the dark - I don't know how they price their services to you..Toss me a figure you can make money on and I'd probably be willing to pay it.
Trav, judging by playas.ca your a gamer as well - Wouldn't mind talking to you in a more direct manner if you were up to it?
I'll PM you my ICQ/MSN information - hope to hear from you.

| The problem with that is we don't currently have a way to do it. And one could do some really serious bandwidth damage with a wide open connection to Giganews... I don't think $10 per month is really sufficient. |

| Maybe checking into another ISP source is the way to go? I've changed my NG provider to www.usenetserver.com since we last spoke, and they charge me $14.95 a month for unlimited downloads - Speeds are great, only difference from giganews is they only have approximately 18days of retention - Which is no big deal.
Anyways if they can do it for $14.95 a month, perhaps you could as well.
