PS-2 and X-Box still require a "kit" to get online through your broadband.
The mini-CD thingy was an attempt to thwart piracy. Whether it was effective or the GC just sucked too bad to be worth pirates' time is anyone's guess, but I haven't seen any GC piracy going around.
The Xbox does not require a kit to get online, only a subscription; you can get it out of the box and hook it up to your DSL modem/router. The Xbox Live Kit you're thinking of only enhances the online experience by providing a headset with mic. -- SBC DSL Tech Support. |
