Use the console port in the back to reset the password, and the LAN ip. Then you can login via the LAN, and use the web setup.

There are excellent FAQ's on this site:

»Cayman Routers »How can I reset my Cayman's password?

»Cayman Routers »How do I clear the configurations through a Telnet Session?

Also, many others.

if you cannot access the cayman at 192.168.1.254, first you need to see what your default gateway is. to do this, goto a command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" without the quotes, and hit enter. if your address comes up as 169.x.x.x, then you are not getting an ip from the router. if it comes up as any other ip, it should list a gateway, this will be the ip address of the 3220 that you would need to enter in your browser or telnet program. although it won't do much good without the password!

if you are not getting an ip from the 3220, you need to set your NIC to a static ip of 192.168.1.x, subnet 255.255.255.0 and see if you can access it. if not, you MUST use the serial port to access the 3220. this is actually your best bet, it will save on headaches.

also, by not being able to select your network card, do you mean it does not give you a choice for TCP/IP?

Did you try with a "dot" after "cayman-dsl"? THe "dot" character, not the word. cayman-dsl.

the address I am getting when I do the ipconfig is 169.254.22.69 so it wasprobably set up for a static ip. I have dynamic, and need to set the modem up for that. and enable the dhcp. So were do I put my user name and password into this thing and how do you enable dhcp. I found the dhcp setting and it says it is off put how do you turn it on?? Access through the db9 with Procomm+ is fine.

First, you need to reset the modem to factory default as layed out here.
»Cayman Routers »How do I clear the configurations through a Telnet Session?
Since you can access the Cayman thru the console, just do steps 2 - 6.

Once complete the Cayman will restart and you can release and renew the ip of the PC by going to the command prompt and typing in ipconfig /release and then type in ipconfig /renew or just reboot the PC.

Ok I finally got the thing reset. But I do not have the option for pppoe under my dsl/atm options I saw a friends settings and he had the option for pppoe-llc. I do not I only have ppp-llc, and ppp-vc . Is this a firmware issue???

Sounds like you are running outdated firmware (5xx vesion)
It is recommended you upgrade to the latest.

ppp-llc IS ppoe. it is just the older cayman terminology.

and you can download the file thru another connection, then upload it to the cayman. your PID is also listed on the bottom label. goto »www.netopia.com/en-us/equipment/···man.html and choose your PID. if you do not have a PID, use the first set. remember to get both the updater and the firmware, then run the updater first.
