Re: tsk

NOw, now. All Bell Canada wants is unregulated access to the latest technology, just like everyone else. It's called a level playing field. Let competition shake out the winners and losers. Not regulation. The companies with the best VoIP service at the best price will win. It's that simple.

Re: tsk

As a giant, Bell Canada has way more resources (financial, etc.) to be a winner in the field. Regulating Bell Canada and not other companies would be fair competition-wise, so that smaller players get a chance to get into the market.

Re: tsk

Please. They've already got a head start. Bell Canada is still maybe a year to year and a half away from offering residential VoIP service. Vonage, Primus and some others are already selling theirs. Besides, the CRTC doesn't regulate Broadband ISP pricing, and there's tons of smaller DSL companies around.

Oh, and the main reason why Bell Canada wants VoIP in such a bad way is to take on Telus out west. In Ontario and Quebec, VoIP will be part of the strategy, but VDSL will be the main focus because of all the copper in the ground.

listen.
if smaller companies are better, they will WIN even if bell isnt regulated
if they're even or worse they wont so why would we need shitty companies or clones?
let the best win.

Bell Canada is scared they won't be able to corner the market and not have the option to charge ridiculous amounts for long distance..

Re: tsk

What are you talking about?

$5/month for 1000 anytime Canada/US long distance minutes is ridiculous?

Re: tsk

This is the reason why Bell created this 5$ plan, your company is falling, and fast. If they ask to get VoIP unregulated it's because they KNOW it's better for them. Bell is trying (just trying) to react in a changing market it cannot handle anymore.

Re: tsk

Nice try.

How about looking at the 2 year chart instead of the 6 month one. BCE's price is levelling off to where it normally is.

Re: tsk

Well, if in 2 years there's no gains there's a problem...plus, Dotcom/Nortel crash is far now. See how Telus is right now.

Re: tsk

Well thats bundle prices.. So that has nothing to do with people who use a diff wireless carrier, diff Sat or Cable provider or inet provider.. Also ITS NOT VOIP!

So like I said, their long distance prices are outrageous. and if Bell had their way, they would attempt to put all the VOIP providers out of business then charge a arm and a leg to people who dont want their crappy inet or sat services..

And how many alternative long distance providors are there? Tons. Has Bell put all those guys out of business? Nope. Are long distance prices regulated? Nope. Thank you for proving my point. The CRTC should stay the hell out of it and let the men seperate from the boys.

Re: tsk

Your not even talking about the same thing.. Sure there will always be tons of VOIP providers. Problem is its not just about price deregulation (or whatever they are complaining about now). Bell wants to be treated like a small fry when they arent.(they own major backbones) If Bell gets deregulated, later on down the road when everyone uses VOIP, Bell could fix their routers to give a lower priority or worse piority to packets from other VOIP companies possibly resulting in what appears to be poor service from the customers point of view. This could result in a loss of customers for that company if they decide to go to bell who promises better QOS for the same or cheaper price..

Re: tsk

Really.

Does that happen with LD and internet? No and no. Other companies use Bell's backbone for both of those services and seem to flouish just fine.

Oh, and BTW, Bell is only objecting to price regulation by the CRTC. They want the CRTC to still come up with and enforce QOS rules and standards so that everyone plays on the same field.
