Need some port help

My DSL server does not have static IP adresses. I use a caymen 3220H with updated software. Im having problems hosting voice chats and games or ftp file sharing. Some one told me i need to open ports. I am new to router and dont know what to put into the boxes for opening ports. Also I use a norton software fire wall so is there a way I can totaly open all my router ports for gaming without a static IP.. Thanks from a disgusted gamer...:(

since you run a software firewall, the easiest thing to do is to setup NAT default server to point to your machine. goto configure-advanced-NAT default server. enter your PC's local ip. this will forward ALL unsolicited traffic to your machine, so make sure you set the firewall up properly! and don't forget to save and restart the router after you make the changes.

the other way, which is more secure but harder to configure, is to find out what ports each of you programs require and forward them to you machine. to do this, you would goto configure--advanced--pinholes and create a pinhole(port forward) for each set of ports you must forward. see »Cayman Routers »How do I configure a Pinhole in my Cayman Router?

Thank you for the reply.I would like to know if turning of the NAT will work because I have two other computers hooked up to this modem router. They both also have their own firewalls on software. And where do I find the IP for my computer to put in the box.. Thanks again.

if your provider is only giving you 1 ip address, you MUST leave NAT on or else be limited to 1 machine hooked up at a time.

as to finding your local ip, in XP or 2k from a command prompt on the machine type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes. hit enter and it will give you your local ip. if you run windows 98, goto start-run-enter in "winipcfg" without the quotes and hit enter.
