Thnaks TD....Can you be a little more specific?? I would like to tell the Comcast folks this ....Supposedly, they are sending a truck to check the line from pole to my house next weeke, while I am not there...(I cant take off work for 4 hours....I have a $92.00 cable bill!)

They were supposed to do this last time, but instead called and when I wasnt home they didnt come....The guy this time assures me that he will email the line tech in my area and tell him to check levels without me home....

SO, I thought I would send this info to them , if you think that would help...or at least to let them know that I know that the levels are bad.....

Is it my up or down levels that are bad or both?? I seem to have service for the time being.....Could these bad levels also explain the faint rolling grey lines in my TV picture??

Your downstream pwr. level is to low at -17 dBmV maxs is -15 dBmV sooner or later this is going to cause you problems again.I wouldn't call until it starts dropping connection again.

Check your signal levels again today and if their still bad,start a new thread of your own,so your problem doesn't get lost in this one.

Also write down the information in this FAQ,then you can tell right away when your signals are out of specs.

last numbers were 20.1/ 44.8 and 16.2/44.8

Should I call and tell Comcast these numbers or will they laugh at me??

Well, Comcast was here today while I was at work...the note I left is gone and they droppeda part at my curb...there was a message on my machine that said "We'll call you back"..that was at 10am...nothing since.....

The line is still in my TV picture, my modem readings are still around the -15/45 ballpark, and nothing outside looks like it was touched.

Go figure.

My service hasnt dropped yet today though, far as I can tell.

I've been having problems all week with losing my connection. I go into my router and release the DHCP and renew it and I take on a new ip address and everything is fine. Sometimes does it 4-5 times a day. Really annoying me at this point. Any suggestions let me know.

Spike,
As you know you have an upstream signal problem. I assume it gets worse in the heat of the day. This is pretty much a job for comcast. If your TV signal on the lower channels (2-7) gets kind of fuzzy then call this in as a fuzzy tv signal problem. If your tv picture is clear and sharp, then call comcast internet support and tell them you have intermittent disconnects that last for 15 minutes or more and then come back. If it always happens on hot afternoons, make sure they know that too.

ok ok ok. its been over 2 weeks. she hasn't called. this weekend she is!! for shuuuuuuuure. and its not goin up by the heat of the day. its been at 58 and only at 58 for 2 weeks. nomatter wat i do its 58lol. it was ok at 41-43 for a week. then it starts to hate me again. ill tell u what happens when they come.

Just for frame of reference, I've had 58dB upstream for about 2 years now and never had any problems. By this, I mean that my speeds and, more importantly connectivity are flawless. My modem might have to work like a horse to get me such, but it does (Motorola SB4200).

Sometimes signal strengths can be a little overvalued.

I agree, my SB4200 is currently at 58 and even 61 at times when it reaches 104 outside...

It really is something that's an off/on problem for people. When it is a problem, like in Spike's example, it really is a problem. I've found the best remedy is simply to replace splitters and make sure the modem is on the first splitter. I can't stress to everyone enough how important that is.

My upstream power level does not change at all in the heat of the day.It stays solid at 45dBmV.

But my downstream power will go from -4dBmV in the cool of the morning to -7dBmV in the heat of the afternoon.

My SNR stays between 34dB and 35dB.

I only bring this up because i thought it was upstream power that was heat effected.

All signal levels can be effected because of heat, both upstream and downstream are effected.
