Re: 4Mbps

I couldn't agree more. They can't even deliver 3/.256 consistently.

I'd go with dsl if I didn't have to have a landline as well..

i have pretty consistent speeds close to 3000/256. Actually usually closer to 3200/243. When I had aDSL I only got 1100/102 when advertised was 1500/128.

Ditto... my 3000/256 speeds are very consistant. I generally average 3200/236. I have been as high as 3400/248 but haven't seen that in a while.

Not for me, I'm in the unfortunate situation of living a few blocks too far, and am in SBC (& Comcast) territory (instead of Verizon & Time Warner)

I'm in LA, and every evening the network goes down the drain. Speeds are rotten during standard evening hours. If I hop on later at night or early morning on a weekend, the speeds are normal / fine.

We now offer Dry ADSL nationwide, even if you have SBC

Although I think its awesome that you're doing that, $65/month is too much in my book for 1.5/.4. If the prices were the same as the ones requiring a land line, then I'd seriously consider it.

At that price its cheaper for me to get a landline and get the cheapest metered service, which typically amounts to ~$15/month after taxes.

Is the $100 install as well as $100 modem required??

"here" where? I'm in NH (one of the supposedly "dry" DSL regions) and all the media scuttlebutt sez it's here, but Verizon sez it's not - nor do they "know" anything about it. For now it's hogwash unless you *already* have wet DSL and want to migrate your hardline voice to Verizon's wireless service. That's not dry DSL, that's swap your hardline for our mobile service *contract* because that's how Verizon can stem the loss of customers.

For people like me who were forced to drop Verizon-everything *specifically* because they refused to unbundle are now locked into other-mobile + other-compconnect services. Verizon continues to really fock up this aspect of their business.

That is, as you may know, merely a capacity problem in your immediate neighborhood. Comcrap can & will deploy more capacity if users in your region complain. Start complaining. Thoughput depressions like the one you describe are often caused by a small number (2-10) of identifiable users (read: neighbors) who are file trading.

OK, Sorry to have taken this way OT, but to clarify.

We (LB DSL) have just launched an ADSL product that does NOT require voice service, we can provide this ANYwhere we currently offer ADSL (43 states).

Yes the cost is more then our line share products, because we have to pay the ILEC for the copper. Yes the install is more, because it MUST be a pro-install, since the line is brand new.

We have launched one speed right now 1.5/384 with faster speeds coming in late summer.

Here is some basic info »NEW ADSL option, without voice service

Now, lets get back on topic of Cable 4mbps

In a few areas that is true, but looking at the speed test archive it looks like they do a good job of offering 3/256 speeds to a great deal of customers. It does suck though if you are in one of the areas where the 3/256 cap is just a fantasy.

I'm inclined to think that its more than just my neighbors; I've seen multiple posts in the Comcast forum complaining about the speeds going to shit in LA during the peak hours.
