The same configuration has worked flawlessly for about 3 years, so I was starting to suspect SBC was dumping me. I use a SonicWall firewall with NAT/PPPoE and a SpeedStream 5360. Still digging into the problem. Another interesting issue is that the SonicWall tries to reconnect automatically, but I have to completely recycle the modem before I can get reconnected. I even tried my old 5260 modem with the same result. I don't see any glaring issues looking in the SonicWall log file.

You've had DSL for 3 years....have you had the Modem that long too? If so, possible the modem is going bad. Other than that...not sure. Is your modem near anything that could cause electrical interference( the usual tier1 stuff). | |

Had my original 5260 when I noticed the pattern, so I dug out the unopened box with the 5360 in it (from last service upgrade) and got exactly the same thing. Everything else seems to be the same. I'm noticing, in addition to random drops, a few times a day when the speed goes to nearly nothing for a while, then gradually comes back. I'm collecting data via line quality, ping, and speed tests.
Maybe SBC is working in my area, and the tech support folks I've talked to are just unaware. | |

Try it straight without the router, if it does the same thing, then it might be wiring problem or a problem in the Central Office. Basically, sounds like ASI may need to get involved to check things out. If the connection stays solid without the router, then you might've found the problem. | |

It's happened again several times in the last hour or so. I'm collecting information via my SonicWall log file. I've watched the modem lose it a couple of times, but the router always reconnects. I did have to recycle the router once because it couldn't re-establish a PPPoE connection. I'm not suspecting the SonicWall is the problem at this point, but I'll collect some more information, and if that proves useless, I'll bypass the router, and see if the problem goes away.
I won't be able to live without printer for more than a day, though, and it's only connected via the network. I'll have to reconfigure IP's to test connection without router, so I'm considering that a last resort.
I'll attach my sonicwall log as it stands right now, for amusement. If the times can be checked against network information at ASI, maybe a correlation can be made.
UPDATE: As of this morning, my PPPoE connection was lost 7 times in the last 8 hours. Updated log file attached. Increase in frequency in the early hours of this morning.
Now THAT's what I call a dynamic IP address! | |

My modem stays all lights on, but I lose the I'net Conn. icon in the system tray and the only way to get it back is to power down the modem. I may keep my eyes open for another modem at Staples, any suggestions or things to beware of? I'm currently using a 5262 Extended Reach version through a Linksys BEFSX41 Cable\DSL Firewall Router. Any help is appreciated. Should I request help in the SBCDirect tech forum? | |

| I'm getting the same behavior here. I posted a message last week and only got one reply, from a user who was having the same problem.
I have excellent speed when I'm connected, but I'm experiencing 1 to 4 drops daily according to my monitor log.
I'm using my original 5360 (forgot to ask for a new model when I renewed to Expert Plus in Feb) and a Linksys BEFSR41, both about 14 months old.
I hate to bother the techs over in support, but it doesn't appear anyone here has any suggestions for a problem that seems to be hitting more than a few users lately. | |

I posted in another topic, but want to bump this one to the top to see if anyone got around this problem. I have a SpeedStream 5260 modem and a Linksys BEFSR41 router. My connection drops occasionally and I have to power the modem off & back on to get the Linksys to reconnect via PPPoE. Occasionally I will see the same problem with the "network connection unplugged" message in Windows XP. The confusing part is this problem is fairly new. It's only been happening the last month or so, and I've had my DSL service for over two years with no problems using the same modem & router.
Did anyone else find the cause of this problem? | |
