"that was my concern, that SBC was dumping me because i was using a 3rd party router. my neighbor says that there is a way around this, but i havent had the time to get him to show me"

There is no way for any sbc equipment to tell what you are using to auth with it is all PPPoE.

If you are getting dropped its not a sinister plan targeting people using non-sbc routers
