Re: Lower your ping time!

Uhmn, Since the first day i was switched to the NYC gateway , I have had 10ms to my gateway constantly. Day and night, speeds might have moved up or down (not anymore 1.3mbit down perm) but ping time was never an issue after i moved to the new gateway, btw my ping time to my action quake server in nj is 20ms, yes thats right iam one wicked LPB!

In truth, all lines which are reprovisioned by Covad for any reason will automatically switch to fast-path and all newly installed lines will use fast-path by default.
At CapuNet, we have decided to request reprovisioning on a per-user basis. Since we first uncovered this issue soon after interleaved DMT came to market, we have been sensitive to the effects of circuit-type switching on our client's lines. Since the long term effects of fast-path DMT are not known, we have decided to migrate customers on a per-request basis at least until we are satisfied with the process.
So far, we have seen latency reductions of 30-60ms, with lowest latencies approaching 10ms for clients who had experienced 50ms pings to the gateway. These are on par with latencies offered to our SDSL clients. Our beta users have reported excellent results. The question of whether interleaving did offer better line stability remains unanswered. It is clear that fast-path has the potential of offering less stability and possibly lower sync rates, but tests have not been conclusive. So far, we have not seen significantly lower sync rates, and most clients have not seen a reduction in bandwidth. You must remember that RADSL service can sync at a different rate each time your line re-syncs for any reason. For some, the differences can be dramatic. Do not assume the results of your first sync following the switch to fast-path DMT will be an accurate representation of your best sync rate.

Enjoy the better gaming!
