For whatever reason, I am unable to open "mailto:" links on websites. I checked for the "mailto:" entry under File Types but it is missing. How can I add this entry? |

Do you have default mail client set? "...# Start Internet Explorer. # On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. # Click the Programs tab. # In the E-mail box and in the Newsgroups box, click the program you want. # Click OK...."

I do not have "mailto" as a registered file type.
Suggest you carry what Cudni suggests one step further....
Change your mail program to some other program, exit Internet Explorer.
Then fire up Internet Explorer again and reset the mail client to the proper program.
If that doesn't work, we'll take this another step and hack the registry.
What mail client are you using? |

| reply to defiant The file type should be URL:MailTo Protocol. It doesn't have a file extension, so it should be at the very beginning of the list. My Open entry using Outlook is:
"C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m "%1"

| If you don't have the file association like in this picture, then create one. You'll probably have to do some research on Mozilla's site to see what options you have to pass to Thunderbird so it will properly open a new message window from a link. |

| Here's the registry key from my XP Pro, with Outlook as the registered application. This will create the association, but you will have to modify it for Thunderbird. Maybe after you import the registry file, you can use options in IE to switch it to Thunderbird. Right-click on the reg file and choose edit to view it's contents. |
