I will also be curious to see how well it does. We are saturated with electronic stores in the Atlanta area. The Gwinnett Mall area already has a bunch of them.

Each store carries its own unique theme.

In Southern California: - Fountain Valley hails the ruins of ancient Rome, complete with a flowing aqueduct - Manhattan Beach takes you to Tahiti with sculpted lava tiki heads and its own rain forest - Woodland Hills is a page out of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland storybook, with 10 to 15 foot high figurines of all the characters - Anaheim places you on the NASA flight deck for the Endeavor Space Shuttle, complete with launches on big screen TV's - Burbank pulls you back in time to the 1950's with a retro-space theme from Hollywood, complete with Martians and Gort, the robot - City of Industry where the factory setting is a salute to the Industrial Revolution complete with oversized gears and cogs - The mystical civilization of Atlantis is alive and thriving in San Marcos with numerous aquaticfeatures icluding a 7000 gallon aquarium with live sharks.
In Arizona: - Phoenix features a giant serpent above the entrance which is emblematic of its Aztec design.
In Texas: - Dallas' Lazy-K ranch is reminiscent of it's cattle ranching history - Houston showcases the oil industry replete with a field of gushing oil derricks - Austin is a tribute to the city's reputation as the "Live Music Capital of the World" - Irving features a pictorial history of the community which was founded in the early 1900s and named after Washington Irving - Plano depicts the city's evolution from a farming community to a modern-day urban center of commerce

I got the ultimate theme - and it's perfect, for Atlanta that is - The American Civil War - with a few iron cannon on old fashioned iron spoked carriage wheels placed outside, a Confederate Flag, a statue of Robert E Lee and Jefferson Davis, peanuts or goobers being sold with every Fry's purchase (LOL), and every woman employee at Fry's dressed as Scarlet O'hara ! And every male employee ? Well they just have to do their best to sport a Clark Gable mustache! Muhahahahahahahaaaa !:D -- Alright, BIG MAN! So You Want To Make the BIG BUCK$, Eh??!!. . . . . . Are you sure that's not the old General Cinemas building (behind Sears)? That picture sure looks like it.
I'm glad they've located there and not Mall of Georgia; that will be much more convenient to most of Atlanta than MOG -- I certainly wouldn't trek up to MOG very often for small electronic components. They also probably got a lower lease on the building/land.

| I got there at ~7pm and picked up the FAR ATX case, 430W PS, and GMRS radios. Would have loved to have gotten the fax machine, but those were gone. The rebate forms were all printed by the cash register.
Yes, the place is huge. But as I drove out tonight, I went by the old theater -- next door. The Fry's building is new, and is at least twice (possibly 4x) as large as the theater (was it an 8-plex? it's been so long, I don't recall).
Their ad in Thursday's Atlanta paper was the entire section B -- 8 pages, not just an insert. They spent a lot of $$$ on the building, so it's no wonder they haven't opened stores in more cities.
The registers use barcode scanners. I read on an anti-Fry's website that they didn't (referring to a California store, I think). Is that still the case there? They didn't ask to see my ID to pay with a credit card, either (as was also reported on that site).
All in all, it was a very pleasant shopping experience, except for the crowds. I went without a shopping cart as long as possible to be able to move around more easily.

| I hit there last night on my way home from work. I had been looking at a Sony DVD changer. Best Buy had it for $159. Fry's outpost.com website had it for $99. Fry's had it on the shelf for $159, like BB. I mentioned the web price on the unit, the sales guy checked with his manager, and I purchased the player for $99. They did try to push the extended warranty, but not to the point of being obnoxious.
Like someone else said, this place is HUGE! It's like you laid a Best Buy next to a Circuit City, then put a micro center and a Comp USA in front of it. I have never seen a selection of electronic equipment under one roof like this place. I plan on going back after the crowds subside and just roam. They also have a cafe in the middle of the store, so your wife can sit and read with a latte while you drool. -- Whoever dies with the most toys, WINS!
