@lax-4-12-002-031.dsl | the store should be open now, they normally have a soft opening before the big grand opening. They will normally be open from like 10-6. I would call them first |

| Dissapointed in Fry's
I went to Fry's tonight on my way home from work and loved the store but hated the local hired staff. I had some items I was going to buy, everything I had was $9.99 and one $24.95, and when I let the salesman know I was done and ready to go he told me we needed to create a quote. After he made me setup an account with my phone number he then went on to make a quote for items that I should have been able to just take up to a register.
Once we got to the register he wanted to get my pricematch done on a DVD we were informed that a DVD couldn't be on a quote and a quote can't be edited so we would have to start all over. I finally told them I would come back after they get the processes down.
After I walked out to my car I decided to go back and tell the manager my experience because I knew I would be going back to this store in the future as long as the fix their issues and make their sales people less pushy for the commission. |

FYI - Fry's is big on the West Coast. They have a really nice location in downtown Portland. |

I went last night too and none of the sales people bothered me too much. The place is massive, I had no idea it was sapposed to be so big. Obviously the staff is all new and local, but they seemed very curtious and you have to anticipate that they're all still learning 'on the job'. Hell I figured they opened a few days ahead of their big 'grand opening' sale to make sure they get at least a little practice. Oh well, I'm going back on Friday during my lunch hour with a few guys from work and hope they have some good hard drive deals. They didn't really have much of anything on sale but I already have my eye on a few things that you really can't find in 'normal' stores like nice Mulitmeters and test equipment stuff that I'd like to get for home. |

| I have to say their stock was nice and I loved the store and that was why I went back in lastnight and talked to the manager. I hope they learn something from my feedback and understand a $10 purchase doesn't need a "quote" when they really aren't quoting anything but instead making sure they get their commission.
I guess I'm one of those people who doesn't need to be walked through the store and repeatedly asked if I need a new laptop by the same sales rep 30 times. I also don't like car sales people who follow me around the lot when I go to look at a car. If I have questions I'm a big boy, I'll ask. |

| I tried out Fry's again tonight to get some of the stuff I wanted last night and I had to run to the items I wanted then went to a register and checked out. I did have to dodge sales people and give them very short answers to keep them off my back.
Hopefully after the store is not so new the staff will be less pushy. |

I hit there last night on my way home from work. I had been looking at a Sony DVD changer. Best Buy had it for $159. Fry's outpost.com website had it for $99. Fry's had it on the shelf for $159, like BB. I mentioned the web price on the unit, the sales guy checked with his manager, and I purchased the player for $99. They did try to push the extended warranty, but not to the point of being obnoxious.
Like someone else said, this place is HUGE! It's like you laid a Best Buy next to a Circuit City, then put a micro center and a Comp USA in front of it. I have never seen a selection of electronic equipment under one roof like this place. I plan on going back after the crowds subside and just roam. They also have a cafe in the middle of the store, so your wife can sit and read with a latte while you drool. -- Whoever dies with the most toys, WINS! |

| reply to Gromit2 I got there at ~7pm and picked up the FAR ATX case, 430W PS, and GMRS radios. Would have loved to have gotten the fax machine, but those were gone. The rebate forms were all printed by the cash register.
Yes, the place is huge. But as I drove out tonight, I went by the old theater -- next door. The Fry's building is new, and is at least twice (possibly 4x) as large as the theater (was it an 8-plex? it's been so long, I don't recall).
Their ad in Thursday's Atlanta paper was the entire section B -- 8 pages, not just an insert. They spent a lot of $$$ on the building, so it's no wonder they haven't opened stores in more cities.
The registers use barcode scanners. I read on an anti-Fry's website that they didn't (referring to a California store, I think). Is that still the case there? They didn't ask to see my ID to pay with a credit card, either (as was also reported on that site).
All in all, it was a very pleasant shopping experience, except for the crowds. I went without a shopping cart as long as possible to be able to move around more easily. |

| reply to g_smooth2k Unbelievable rebate deals if you get there soon enough...I'm here on business for a few weeks...went in looking for a soundcard, which I got real cheap. Also got a new software called Audio Xtract that was on display with a rebate. I fired it up right away at home and it's amazing. I recorded about 300 MP3s from 5 internet radio streams at once. Has anyone else used this yet...I'm lovin' the free tunes! I heard they are opening a store in Chicago, too, if they haven't already. |
