C-card company lists wrong SBC# in statement!

If you have been trying to contact SBC internet's customer service phone line (800)xxx-9932. THIS IS THE WRONG PHONE NUMBER!

The number that they list on your credit card bill/statement is incorrect. It should read 866 instead of 800.

How do I know this? Because my business' 800 number is the one listed above. For 5-6 months now, we've been receiving calls from irate SBC customers complaining about incorrect charges posted to credit cards. I've tried unsuccessfully to talk and even write to someone at SBC -- but to no avail. No one there has any clue how to fix the problem.

BTW, an 800 number is toll free for the caller -- but my business has to pay for the incoming calls. So if you could, spread the word.

Thanks,

Todd

As strange as this sounds, I've verified it by dialing both numbers (and blocking out the prefix in his message).

All I suggested was calling SBC's legal department and giving them a damage amount.

Re: SBC lists phone number in credit card statements!

If you would, please IM me a good contact # for me to call. I'd like to get some more info so we can get this corrected. I have already been contacted by my upper management so it has been noticed.

Wow. I'm officially convinced that you guys can do anything.

After checking a SBC bill, the number listed on it is correct.

It is the number to reach the Shared Web Hosting dept and is correctly listed as 1-866-xxx-9932.

Unfortunately there's nothing SBC can really do about this. I would contact Bell South back and see about what other options you might have.

I work for a company that has multiple 800, 866, and 888 numbers, I had a feeling it might be user error by the customers dialing 800 instead of 866.

I had a similar problem with a trucking company who "shared" my toll free 888 number, except that theirs is 877. Evidently their drivers use it to call in. Needless to say I got tired of them misdialing my number instead.

Now if I could only get that Canadian company to quit trying to fax stuff to it...

There isn't much you can do if the general public is involved except change the number or restrict the region it accepts calls from.

But I've spoken to SBC customers who read me the phone number printed on their bills/statements -- and it is our 800 number, not an 866 number.

We've had this number for 12 years and never had this problem before. Maybe SBC should change THEIR number

Now what do I do?

Bill SBC for answering services rendered?

Dosen't SBC have a corporate President's contact or office of some kind I heard about for special situations. This sounds like the kind of fix that needs to come from the top down.

People will lie when confronted with a screwup like misdialing a phone number. Unless you can get copies of their bills showing the wrong number (yours) you have no recourse except to just deal with it.

Yeap, that's the first thing I checked too... not sure what the point of blocking it out was other than to keep more people from calling and running up his toll-free service bill.

That's it exactly. He wants to post his website in his link, it becomes his responsibility. He needed to post the number here to get the problem pointed out to the right people, but once I had it, so did they. I just took care of the more immediate problem.

Re: SBC lists phone number in credit card statements!

All righty!

At 10:00 am this morning, we received a call from Lubbock, TX asking concerning SBC internet services. I asked her to read the phone number on her credit card statement and it was •our phone number. It was a middle aged woman who swore to me that our number was what was printed on her bill.

Do I need to start taking names?

No, but getting a few copies of their bills would get you a lot farther with SBC legal.

Ask someone if they'd be kind enough to fax a copy of their bill to you.

Re: SBC lists phone number in credit card statements!

Why does sbc not know what number is on their own bills? If he says his number is on it and knows the area the people are calling from, shouldn't that be enough to check? I mean sbc is going to probably pay this guy's phone bill and probably extra damages since he wasted a ton of time answering these calls. You'd think if money was involved sbc would just fix it, rather then call the guy a liar(that is implied when you tell someone to get proof first) until he can get the proof, the proof sbc of course already has.
