 Awright! 3008K!

I can't believe 10 days ago I was struggling in safe mode 928/384. Then an outage of 2 days gets my line straightened out.

Today at 4:35pm.... 3008K!

Download Noise Margin dropped 17.0 to 13.5db.
First hop stayed at about 13msec.
Speakeasy Chicago speed now 2467/316
EDIT: Forgot 68% relative capacity occupation!

I have 10mbps/half-duplex in that line (monitoring with cheap old hub) to think about getting rid of.

Special Thanks to ElnkShaun (again)!

Fast Path. Geeze, and with your interleave battle going on I forgot to mention it. Does that mean I have an old DSLAM card?

Do you realize I have had the modem suspended from the basement ceiling just so I could have the minimum distance to the splitter (and thus no house electrical pollution) for at least 2 years? I recall it was worth 1db *maybe*. Time to clean it up. Hey, what do all these lights mean?

(pssst... don't tell anyone this EE suspended these light little modems by the RJ45 plug! )

Looks like you are on a non-DMT8 card. Lucky devil.

Doc, do you game ?? If not, what's the big deal about being on interleave ?? Your line will certainly be much more stable.

Reading between the lines this stuck-in-interleave issue sounds like a SNAFU with new hardware integration. I hope it's not the ONLY problem or delay-to-resolution will be maximum. (sigh)

How's the numbers game? Two knowledgeable victims is better than one. Fifty would help.

Hall, I think I can share Doc's feelings. If it were me I'd be thinking: "It's dumb and shouldn't be that way!"

I do on occasion, but it doesn't matter as I am going experience of having ~3,600 ft copper, 4+ previous years of Fast Path service on Bellsouth and 40 to 50+ days per PPPoE session that my line doesn't need additional latency (or additional stability) from being on Interleave for no technical reason other than it's a default setting that should be changed.

I didn't need it when I was uncapped for a test period.

Nope Just skimmed it which made me curious because Max speed i've been able to hit is »/speedtests/25···90726667 and »/speedtests/24···105219/1

:edit:
Just saw Doc's updated post when i refreshed. Thumbs up man! Finally got the interleaved/fast fixed.

Been playing around with my network setup. I took out the old 10M/half hub and surprisingly got no increase in speed. My top end is 2503 on every router and connection I have. I expected the old collision-happy hub to be a small detriment at this speed.

Boy, speed tests sure changed in the last 6 months. Some need Sun's engine - Firefox seems distinctly hampered a small amount by it, never achieving MSIE's speed.

Okay, you switched from Interleave to Fast yet your noise margins didn't change (a -0.5 drop is negligible). That doesn't make sense...

What were your pings like in either mode ??

Why would noise margin change? It's the analog measure. Interleave shouldn't affect it (just data).

It happens in Covad's safe mode because of the rate change. I only saw this once when rates were the same and recall no noise margin change.

Ahhh, maybe that's what I'm confusing.... Safe Mode is reduced speed *and* switch to interleave. You're right that the speed reduction alone is what's responsible for the change in SNR.
