| [netopia] Messed up my configuartions for my 3500 Netopia
I messed up my router and now i cant get back my original configuration. I'm not well versed in networking and routing. I am trying to hook up my surveillance system onto the router so that I can type in my fixed IP from home and view the camera system. How do I got back and fix my router so I can get back onto the Internet?
The error that I get is "gateway must be on same subnet"
I also want to configure the router so that when I type in the IP address from home, I can directly connect to my surveillance system. Anyone know how? SBC has been of no help...
Sorry if I'm not using the correct terminology. I got my wonderful IT degree from CSUF...
Let me know if more info is needed... |

| I configured the router using the steps found here: »Config for 3546 with 5 SBC Static IPs?
I downloaded the SWBPAC document to reset the router. I am able to go online now. I performed the following when I reset the router:
WAN IP Interface (RFC-1483 Bridged Ethernet vcc1) window, UNSELECT Obtain IP Address Automatically.
6. In the same window, enter in the WAN IP Address and Subnet Mask, from the Configuration Worksheet, in the IP Address and IP Netmask fields.
7. Next, go to the IP Gateway window, and SELECT Enable Gateway Option.
8. In the Default Gateway field, enter the WAN Default Gateway from the Configuration
I am still trying to figure out how to get my surveillance system online. I am able to view the surveillance system through the browser on other computers connected on the LAN...
I have 1 static IP address...
Hope this helps...
You guys have been a great help...thanks |

| reply to mosinluck786 since it is just a camera, you have a couple of choices. you can either a) open pinholes for each port needed, or b) configure the NAT default server option to point all unsolicited traffic to the camera's internal ip. to do this, goto configure--advanced--default server and enter the LAN ip of the camera. this will only work if you either have a single camera or a central controller for multi cameras. the pinhole option will allow you to open different external ports for each camera if you have more than 1 camera.
if your camera uses port 80, you MUST change the web server port on the 3500 to something else, or else change the camera port. to do this in the 3500, goto configure--advanced--internal servers.
remember to save and restart after making changes! -- If you can read this, thank a teacher..........and since it's in English, thank a soldier. |

| is it possible that the router will prevent the webcam to send video through the WAN to my home computer under the current settings? I am able to view the surveillance system on other computers connected to the LAN by typing in the IP address, however, when I am at home, I am unable to retrieve video but I am allowed to view the logon screen and so forth. |

| reply to mosinluck786 the 3500 does not do loopback, so you must use the internal ip of the camera when you are at the same location as it.
for external locations, say from work, you use the WAN ip of the 3500 and the corresponding port number. if your camera uses port 80, you MUST change the 3500's admin port to 8080 and create a pinhole forwarding port 80 to the camera. -- If you can read this, thank a teacher..........and since it's in English, thank a soldier. |

| I called netopia to help me out cuz I'm lost...
They set up the pinhole forwarding all incoming traffic to port 8081 (the port no of my security system). I still am not able to view the video from home but am able to view it from the LAN...the internal server port no is set to 80 (i'm assuming that is the admin port no)...
what should i set the admin port no to in order for me to turn on this loopback feature (the max no is 65534)...
do you recommend me changing the port no of the camera to 80? if i do this do i change the internal server port no to 8081?
thanks... |

1 edit | reply to mosinluck786 can you change the port on the camera itself? if so, change it to 8081. if not, and it must be port 80, then you have to change the admin of the 3500 to 8080 or some other port, and forward port 80 to the camera, and save and restart the 3500. after this, to access the 3500 you would type in 192.168.1.254:8080 in your browser.
you cannot turn on loopback. to browse from a local machine you must use the local ip, the wan ip will only work when you are browsing in from an external connection. -- If you can read this, thank a teacher..........and since it's in English, thank a soldier. |

| I'm not sure if i changed the admin port correctly...
I went under advanced, clicked on internal server and changed the http port no to 8100.
I changed the port for the camera to 8081....
for the pinhole, i changed all the port numbers to 8081 and used the lan ip address of the computer...
did i do everything correctly?
I get a black box when i type inthe address of the camera... i login and i get "can not connect" I dont think it has anything to do with the camera/ software...but i could be wrong... i just wanna make sure that i configured the router correctly... |

| reply to mosinluck786 did you save and restart after making those changes? if so, then you should be good to go on the router side. try browsing to the camera from the LAN and see if it all works. to do this, you must use the internal ip such as h ttp://192.168.1.:8081 in your browser. if that works, but from out side it does not, you either must forward another port or you must adjust your MTU. the camera will be sending a good amount of data, so if you MTU is not optimum it could result in bad/no connection issues. see »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How do I find my optimum MTU setting? -- If you can read this, thank a teacher..........and since it's in English, thank a soldier. |
