| Google issues (search down?)?
I just started having issues with Google about an hour ago... I've been using the site all morning, then suddenly when I started searching I got this error (when I do an actual search):
Google Error
Server Error The service you requested is not available at this time. Service error -27.
Strangely, it is still working from within AOL. I've tried in IE 6 as well as Firefox and get the same error. Perhaps AOL has their own special Google servers, though. |

| reply to dddane I continue to get the error on anything I search for from the main page. Google searches from within AOL are now no longer working. I've tried searching on three different machines, all to with no avail. |

| reply to dddane Can anyone else here confirm this? In our company, whether or not it works seems to depend on the connection to the 'net. Our connection out here is via ATDN (AOL). Our office in LA is fine. I wonder if this is just affecting people on AOL's backbone (AOL users mostly). |

| reply to dddane Dshield is reporting a new virus that is causing issues with search engines.
"latest MyDOOM search engine use Latest MyDoom search engine use (initial analysis. more details, and eventual corrections, will be posted as they become available) The latest version of MyDoom, which started arriving in peoples mail boxes in force today, uses search eninges to find more recipients for its message. Once the virus is started, it searched the users files for domain names. Once it spotted a domain name (e.g. '@example.com', or in 'www.example.com'), it will search various search engines for valid e-mail addresses within these domains. These search engines include Lycos, Google, Altavista, Yahoo and possibly others. Some of the search strings used: GET /default.asp?lpv=1&loc=searchhp&tab=web&query=e-mail+example.com Some search engines report performance issues" |

I can do standard searches, but when putting in the text for 'hotmail.com' I get 403 and a warning. That I can confirm,
"Your client does not have permission to get URL /search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=hotmail.com&btnG=Search from this server."

1 edit | reply to dddane Just to clarify, this does not necessarily mean that you are infected with the virus. It is speculated that the sheer volume of requests coming into various major search engines is creating errors for anyone who is attempting a query, valid or otherwise.
However, you may want to check to see if your preferred virus scanner has released updated virus definitions and scan your system.
You can also expect that some search engines may temporarily block common e-mail domain names, or search strings formatted with @domain.com, in an attempt to thwart searches by the virus. |
