| [TWC] Is "Digital Phone" available in your area yet?
Hello -
I am curious if the Time Warner (or Brighthouse) Digital Phone product is available in your area yet. During this week's quarterly call, Time Warner indicated that it was commercially available in 15 markets and in *trials* in 7 others. They just would not say which.
Thanks, Peter |

| reply to percosan Western Ohio TW is advertising it in the local paper and it's listed on their website. I also got a sales/telemarketing call about it last week. It would appear that it's available NOW in my area.
They want $39.99/month though. My local phone bill is ~$25 and I do get "unlimited" # of calls. Some months I have NO long-distance, other months $20-40. Over the course of a year, it would NOT be worthwhile to me (took repeating that more than once to the telemarketer to get her to comprehend though). |

I got a mailer from TWC about Digital Phone. I'm still weary on VoIP because of the "Power Outtage" issue.

I have the digital phone and I live in the woh area.
The modem they installed came with a 4 hour battery backup. Its a Scientific-Atlanta Webstar DPX2203. -- Every time I think I've hit the bottom, somebody throws me a shovel. |

| They gave me the Arris Telephony modem with battery backup within 4 days it started reseting it self. 10 times in one day so they exchange it for the Motorola voice over ip modem. No problem now works fine.
No battery backup but, like I don't care. I plan on getting a UPS soon. |

do they have more than 1 plan? I have vonage ($15 a month) and I don't think Brighthouse will come out with a better price, but who knows.. maybe If you have cable+phone the price gets better... |

It is not available in all of KC yet. I live in Gardner KS and they told me that it would be the last part of the city to get it. Mainly because Sprint is there back bone and Sprint like owns Gardner or something. When it is available I am dumping Sprint.

Thanks for those that have responded.
So far, I have found that the product has been launched in 15 divisions (although not completely in each division) and to "friendlies" in 7 others. Price range from $0 (beta friendly) to $39 for the full release.
I have found that the bulk of the EMTAs are from Arris but that there are others from Motorola and S-A. if anyone has something different, I would be happy to hear about this.

Nothing on the web site here in SD yet. I haven't bothered to call them and ask, since I have no interest in the service. |

| reply to percosan I can't get it yet, but some people in charlotte can, I think all of gastonia, nc can get it there are billboards all over advertising digital phone service "starting at $39.95/month". I also know fayetteville, NC can get it which would lead me to believe raleigh can get it too? I'm no sure about that though. I'm pretty sure cincinnati, ohio can get it too. |

To make you even madder, Greensboro, NC can get it.
I don't understand why Matthews can't...I have been to Matthews a number of times (when I thought I would be transferred to Charlotte I contemplated moving there) and you folks are literally connected to Charlotte...weird. -- TripOnThis.net Administrator "Security by obscurity is no security at all. The local franchise shows on their Web site as being available, and they've done an advertising blitz, and sent out flyers, but... if you actually TRY to sign up, it tells you that it's not available. LOL. I wouldn't sign up at that price anyway, it's a joke. I've been a Packet8 customer with two lines now for over 10 months, and couldn't be happier for a total charge of $20.55/mo., with a crap-load of features, and now-rock solid service. I already pay TW WAY too much for crappy TV feed, and they took away important channels to give us more shopping and infomercial stations. Digital Phone is a joke. If you want phone service, go with people who know what they're doing at a good price, Packet8, Vonage, Broadvoice, etc.

Not all of Charlotte can get Digital Phone yet. Only certain parts of the city.
I got tired of waiting on TW and got Vonage. The only thing Digital phone has over Vonage is the use of a dedicated channel for voice traffic.
Power outage, smower outage. Thats what big UPSes and generators are for! And for what it's worth, the last power outage I experienced here in NW Charlotte was so bad, even the phones went down after 2 days. |
