Here is another thread from way back in Feb.

Download DrTCP here.

•Adjust TCP Receive Window to 64240
•Save, Exit & Restart your system.
•Re-run tweak test here.
•Run speed test here.

Post all of your results here.

BTW -- This won't fix your upload speed, but, this will make sure your connection is optimal on the downstream part.

There's nothing we can do for you. As oldTDNickell5 See Profile posted, this is a known problem with the SB5100s in certain areas that has not been resolved. Your choices are to live with it, or use a different model of modem.

If we knew an answer for your problem we would tell you.But we just don't know.I would like to say its a firmware probably, but that doesn't work.

Then you could say its a problem with ex-attbi area's because Comcast can't flash new firmware.

But you can buy a new Moto SB5100 in ex-attbi areas with the new firmware and it still has the same upload problem.

It's way passed time that Comcast takes care of this problem.
I hope you find an answer to your problem.

This does look like the typical SB5100 firmware bug, but just to clarify that it isn't the java speed-tests acting up here, could you post a screenshot of some of the tests mentioned here: »/faq/7126

Interesting post as I posted last week that my Toshiba PCX1100U modem is not compatible since Comcast upgraded last week in my area.

I was thinking about the Surfboard, but perhaps not now.
What is the next best choice for a good modem that does not have problems with Comcast?

Corey..... I rent a Moto 5120 from Comcast, and after five months i can say its a pretty solid modem. It has a different chip set then the Moto SB5100 and doesn't have the upload speed problem.

Hello.
Help?

Not to Necromance a several-day-old thread, but I just recently switched to Comcast.. And I Bought a Motorola 5100 from Circuit City, and I'm in an Ex-ATTBI area. And I have the 4/384 plan, and guess what.. my uploads are around ~200 or so. (I'll copy/paste my signal levels in in just a sec..)

Point being, should I try swapping for another modem? I have a friend who has a spare Dlink DCM-202. Would that be a good replacement? Oh should I go with something like a 5120, or a Toshiba Pcx2600?

Speed test:
2004-08-11 14:41:22 Speed test @ chi.speakeasy.net 4017/200 kbps

Help?

Ok. Well dernit.
My local Best Buy has the choice of the following:
Linksys BEFCMU10 (Version 4 I think)
Dlink DCM-202
and the Motorola 5100.

Seeing as how I'm going on vacation for a bit, and my house mate would probably shoot me if he doesn't have net access, I need to choose something. I'd rather just order one on line, But I need to get one before I leave for vacation.

So which of the above three pieces of junk would be the least Junkiest? I searched around here, and it seems that the Linksys *might* have BitTorrent issues, and that the Dlink might not even work out of the box on Comcast systems.

Halp?

Edit: Of course I also have the local choices of Wal-mart or Circuit City.. But I do beleive that both Only sell Sb5100's... Anyone care to confirm/deny that they carry other cable modem models?

Danke.

1. Sometimes the speedtest page depending on which provider you use doesnt report an accurate upload speed. I would recommend you try one of the regional speakeasy test pages:

Atlanta:
»atl.speakeasy.net/

Washington DC:
»wdc.speakeasy.net/

2. Try uploading a file to your webspace. That's a better judge of speed, you should get about 230 kbit/sec (28K/s)

This is bullshit, I'm returning the 5100 and buying my own.

What modems are known to work well in ex-attbi areas? (NorCal)

Toshiba? Netgear?
