[XP PRO] Wanting To "Sliptream" SP2... How?

I'm wanting to perform a clean install of XP PRO with SP2.

Thinking about slipstreaming SP2 when it hits the web.

Never done it before... ... but I think I can do it?

I'm using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum (PATCH:5.3.5)

Is this pretty up to date?
Will it work for SP2?

Love ya guys!

For everyone who's into simplicity, here's an excellent program from the guys over at Neowin: »www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?s···337&st=0

AutoStreamer does all the work for you. I just slipstreamed the final version of SP2 a few hours ago and I'm currently running my slipstreamed CD.:D

Excellent!!
I think I'm gonna give both options a try.
I do enjoy programs that do everything for you... but I also like taking the scenic route.

When I used this earlier today, it detected my 2180 RTM build as a Pre-SP2 version. Weird..

I believe that it's just a little bug in the program. The code hasn't been updated for the final release of SP2 but it still slipstreams just fine.:)

It doesn't get any easier than that.

Yes, ignore that message about "pre-SP2 version".

That message scared me a bit

It took 15 hours to download SP2 from my official Microsoft source on dial-up, I slipstreamed it into my XP Pro SP1 CD, and I'm currently on the clean install of XP Pro SP2.

This is running great so far, its much faster than SP1, and they managed to noticeably improve its speed over the last sp2 beta release which is great. My programs have never started so quickly, and my boot time has never been so short on XP!

I'm off to finish installing all my programs like Office, and image my partitions

I downloaded SP2 (NETWORK INSTALL) in 12 minutes via DSL....

NON BETA | FULL RELEASE

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation: »www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta···ylang=en

So when I slipstream SP2 into my "ORIGINAL" XP PRO disc (no existing service packs)... it will be installed automatically when it's setting up Windows XP Professional through a clean install?

I'm just wondering if theres any additional steps?

Check out the above links, they give all the information you need to make a slipstreamed cd, and yes when you do a clean install, it will already be integrated.

No wonder;

a) you have less clutter on your system (yet), so yes, you system will seem faster and the rest is between your ears
b) debuging code is always removed from a beta before it goes final. Any final of any OS is always faster than the beta
c) Installing fresh means no fragmented drive

I've found that new OS installs are moderately fragmented. Running a defragmentation utility after installation will prove this...

Is AutoStreamer freeware?
I can't find a website for the author. Does anyone know who wrote this app? Not that I am looking a gift horse in the mouth but if I am going to use this to make a Windows install CD I would like to know that it was written by a reputable or well known person or company.

I can't find the author either but I can tell you I've used it twice so far and it makes a perfect slipstreamed XP/SP2 installation CD and removes a lot of the tedious steps that were once commonplace with slipstreaming. If you don't want to use it, though, that's up to you... there are other slipstream methods as you probably know.

[EDIT] It is free, btw...
