| [HDTV] HDTV first time buyer question
Hi all, this is all very new to me so please bear with my ignorance.
I'm looking into replacing my agin TV with an HDTV one, and there is one currently offered by Costco that is $899 and is a 47" screen HDTV.

However, I noticed it is without an internal (or of any kind) HDTV tuner. Does that just simply mean that I can not receive HDTV channels, but I can at least get my regular local channels? I don't have Cable yet so that doesn't bother me. Is it safe to buy this TV and then plan for the tuner at a later date?
Thanks. |

| reply to lildevil There are very few HDTV sets presently on the market that include and HDTV tuner. This one does not but it does have a standard analog TV tuner. It does have the input connections that would permit an external HDTV tuner box to be added. This could be in the form of an HDTV tuner, a digital cable box or a satellite reciver.
As equipped it will tune normal analog TV channels. |

| reply to lildevil I found a lot of the HDTV isse to be confusing when I was looking. I have a Panasonic 42" plasma HDTV. It has all the tuners built in and is quite capable of handling off the air HD broadcast without a box. But, when it comes to cable, you still need the box!!.
I have Comcast and it costs $5.00 a month but worth every penny. -- "If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man."----- Mark Twain |
