My company recently had this problem - I discovered the solution while trying to manually register 'htmlmarq.ocx'
Open regedit and browse to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options
You should see htmlmarq.ocx and htmlmm.ocx separate keys. Rename them to something else, ie. htmlmarq.tmp and htmlmm.tmp.
You will now be able to install Office 97, including the HTML option, without incident.
DISCLAIMER: I don't know what this section of the registery does or why these files were apparently blocked (intentionally or accidently), but this solution worked flawlessly for me. If you feel uncomfortable, I'm betting you can rename the keys back to the originals and office will work, but if you need to reinstall, you'll possibly have to rename them again. |

Problem: Internet Explorer -Keeps timing out- unable to connect (Cannot find server), to any website, including Windows Update
Solution: Use another browser such as FireFox, and enable for Windows Automatic Updates: "Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them."
Notes: This was a clean install of Windows XP Pro SP2 from a blank hard drive, connected through laptop 10/100 nic NIC is connected to the router, which shares internet access.
Any program except Internet Explorer is able to access the internet. Is also set as the "default application" instead of FireFox. Also have Zone Alarm Free installed- Windows firewall disabled. |

Mine works fine with it and I have xp home. However, that site has been having problems lately...I would recommend that you use this one as it's pretty good.

I have boxed retail Norton Anti-Virus Pro 2003 that I purchased at Best Buy in Columbus, Ohio last year. Today I installed SP2 and got the message about it being aware that I'm running anti-virus software but it couldn't determine it's status. I followed the suggested fix I've read about and put a check on the Firewall options that I have anti-virus software and will monitor it myself so I won't get that balloon window.
Then I clicked on the link posted on page 1 of this thread to the Symantec web site and ran their Automated Support Assistant Program to see if maybe I had some other problem. The resulting message was:
"The Automated Support Assistant has determined that this machine is running a pre-released or beta version of Norton AntiVirus 2003. This version of the software is not supported by Symantec and cannot be updated. Please contact the vendor that you purchased the software from to request a released copy of Norton AntiVirus 2003. Details on our release version are available at the Symantec Products and Services Page.":o:o
I don't think?? Best Buy would be selling pre-released or beta versions of Symantec software would they? And I really doubt that Best Buy is going to let me exchange this software since it's over a year old!!:p
Also posted on the Symantec web site was the statement that support for NAV 2003 Pro would end 9/8/04. That seems strange considering the product is only a year old?
I know Symantec released a 2004 version that I read on BBR was buggy and now on the Symantec web site they're already selling NAV Pro 2005.
Does anybody else have NAV Pro 2003, and if so, are you having any problems with it running under SP2?
Thanks, Mike |

I have this bug in build 2600 SP2 v.2144 :
If a Start Menu (top left) shortcut becomes old (exe has moved, for example) when I click the icon, it opens "QuickLaunch" folder, and the shortcut changes to the "QuickLaunch" bar folder.
Silly! |

I don't know anything about that particular bug but the final released version of SP2 was 2180 not 2144. Maybe you could try downloading the final version. -- Bush/Cheney '04 |

Ok, I may as well share my experience. My PC Specs (for the system running XP SP2) are at the bottom. I was having problems after a memory removal with Windows 2K Pro O/S - "hanging" that would not go away no matter what.
I decided to do a CLEAN install (new format) on a new HDD (brand new) of Windows XP SP2. All went pretty well, driver.cab file would not copy fully, but had that same issue when trying to put 2K Pro on first. XP SP2 installed anyway.
Windows XP SP2 loaded, but the only icon that appeared was Recycle Bin, and nothing in systray. Talked to a friend in IM, he told me disable that "Clean Up" feature as it is buggy, and I *enabled* all the other icons to show up in "Customize" settings. On a reboot, they appeared I believe XP SP2 picked up ALL my drivers (for everything - amazing) except the onboard audio ... Once I installed that manually, everything was working, including my Comcast Cable/Internet/TCP/IP and even my network (as I gave XP SP2 my home network address during install), etc ; This was good
The firewall is "enabled" but has not hindered me from using FlashFXP or UltraFXP ....though I am behind a hardware router, as well.
So far, I have had one "auto-reboot" by XP SP2 while surfing, not sure why it did that......but I then disabled the "Auto Reboot On Error" in Startup & Recovery. Since then, all has been fine, and it does boot FASTER than any of my other machines or O/Ss, and gets into Windows and loads rather quickly. Remember , this was a CLEAN install on a newly formatted , new HDD.
I will post back if I experience any error messages or bsods, but gawd help, I hope not (knock, knock, on wood).

Yes I have a problem. Since installing XPSP2 I can no longer use Live Update to update NAV2003. I get the 1803 error and the only answer Symantec has is to reinstall my AV. I HAVE uninstalled and reinstalled Live Update numerous times now. Stupid doofs. Microsoft warns them almost a year in advance and they STILL have not come out with their ANNOUNCED patch. WinXPSP2 NAV2003 Win firewall turned off. Win popup blocker turned off. Security center disabled (after telling it I have my own AV I want to monitor). WinXP IE security settings at default(tried setting it to low- didnt help). Turned off and disabled Zone Alarm- unloaded vsmon from startup- no change. No other security software running, have enabled ALL of WINXPSP2 services- nothing. What a joke. Now NAV2003 is no longer supported? Great. |

I have the same problem with XP SP2. The Internet Gateway Device does not show in Network Connections anymore. This means that I cannot manually manage UPnP portmappings anymore. There has to be a solution, but I haven't found it yet. |
