Official upload speed increase thread

Looks like upload speeds are headed up again, this time officially. Anyone for 1536/384 for $26.95? 3008/512 for $36.99?

said by SBC:
Building on its commitment to deliver a superior high-speed Internet service, SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC) today announced a two-pronged plan by which all new SBC Yahoo! DSL subscribers will receive increased upload speeds, and current customers will be transitioned to the higher upload rates, at no extra charge. Later this fall, customers will again receive an additional increase in speeds as a benefit of the SBC Yahoo! DSL service.

SBC Yahoo! DSL Express, offering download speeds of 384 kilobits (Kbps) to 1.5 megabytes (Mbps), will include upload speeds of up to 256Kbps. Previously, subscribers of SBC Yahoo! DSL Express received upload speeds of up to 128Kbps. Later this year, the upload speeds will be increased to up to 384Kbps.

Customers subscribing to the flagship service, SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro, receive download speeds of 1.5 to 3.0Mbps and upload rates of up to 416Kbps--an increase from up to 384Kbps which was previously offered. The second phase of increased speeds will provide SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro subscribers with upload rates of up to 512Kbps.

Re: Upload speeds headed up...again

Good news. Nice to see something go up instead of price. Now we need then to work on customer service. Baby steps baby. Baby steps.

Doesn't look like it.

I was hoping for 768.

Your wish is SBC's command...

6016/608 goes to 6016/768. Remember, SBCIS doesn't "officially" offer six megs.

Yeah, that would be nice. It should be Sync'd to at least 15 to 20% of our download speed though. Like 900 to 1200.

So I assume you are just joking. Or is there really going to be an increase for the $44.95 6016/608 users?

This is great. I wouldn't mind having 6mbit though.

I hear that's just for the biz package.

Good news, Do I smell residential VOIP from SBC in the near term???? One thing I wish they would do is make the sync rate a little higher to compensate for overhead so speed would be closer to the advertised rates.

For those of us that have the 6mbit package, do we have to request the upgrade to 768 upstream or will the profile be changed?

Also, when will the change go in?

All upgrades are automatic. Don't count on 768 just yet.

Moved to Chicago recently and lost my coveted 6016/608...:(
But on topic, ordered DSL when I moved into my new place and just upgraded to Pro (due date today). To make a long story short, pulled right from my 2wire stats:

Downstream Rate: 3008 kbps

Upstream Rate: 416 kbps

Freddie,

Yes that is the current sync rate....when these new uploads go into effect you should see a sync of 512 or a little higher.

I haven't even received my 128k to 256k upgrade yet. Will they just update me to 384 automatically? And how much longer until all the RT's are upgraded?

It'll be rate adaptive. If your line can handle it, you'll get it. They only have room for so many profiles in the ASI redbacks.
