Hi schenowth, hope you are enjoying FireFox(Weasel).
To expand a bit on what has already been said -
It is true that FF does not suffer from exploitation via IE's Active-X (because it does not have it), and that today, it seems "drive-by" installations (installing with-out the user clicking "Yes" to an installation Dialogue) do not plague it, but that does not make it, nor you, _immune_.
Less worry, yes, less insecure, yes, but one still must secure one's machine, including IE, (»Security »How to Secure (and Keep Secure) My (New) Computer(s): A Layered Approach: ), work to stay on top of the nasties ( »Security »How do I prevent browser hijacks and spyware? , and Mozilla Firefox Privacy & Security Settings , and practice safe-hex.
There is a lot of good info available to help make you(r) Weasel happy: »texturizer.net/firefox/index.html - »texturizer.net/firefox/options.html - »texturizer.net/firefox/tips.html - »texturizer.net/firefox/mouse.html - »texturizer.net/firefox/keyboard.html
Each user will find just the right combination of settings and Extensions to help them achieve their own Surfing Bliss....
Here are some Extensions that I have come to know and love (some available through Menu-> Tools ---> Extensions --> Get New Extensions , which takes you to »update.mozilla.org/extensions .
TBE AdBlock (See »Ads BGone - Ad Free Surfing FireBird/AdBlock - ) Compact Menu Dictionary Search (8 Search Mod) Bookmark Backup Allow Right-click Pref-Buttons Toolbar Enhancements Cookie Culler IE View Preferential Bug Me-Not Show Old Extensions AniDisable Look Ahead (testing)
You might consider installing Extensions into your Profile, when queried during their installation. This will help ease the burden of Weasel upgrades. hth |
