While we realize people are really trying to help others, please remember that Microsoft jealously guards their software rights, and the right to distribute it.
The only known legitimate, authorized download site for XP SP2 is here: Official MS SP2 Page Finally - The Smaller, Express Installer is up now.
Because we cannot verify whether any other sites are authorized mirrors or not (most likely not) and because of the potential for picking up something with the download you may not like from other sites, ALL links to SP2 downloads not on a Microsoft page will at least have the link removed, and may be just simply moved out of view.
Thanks for understanding, we're not trying to be Net Nazi's or Microsoft Guardians, but are trying to respect Microsoft's copyright and other legal rights and afford you, our valued members, with a little added protection from potential malware sites. -- Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment. janderso1JimPremium,MVM join:2000-04-15 Saint Petersburg, FL | reply to 2kmaro I totally agree. I down loaded SP2 from the Microsoft site yesterday, and it was able to max out my 1.5 megabit DSL connection. Now that it is available from Microsoft, the bootleg sites are unnecessary even if they have a clean copy of the MSDN release. Play it safe and download directly from Microsoft. 1 edit | reply to 2kmaro Time to make my "slipstream" XP SP2 disk.
[EDIT]
I just did a fresh install of XP (with SP2 integrated), and XP seems "peppy" now, and not just because of a "clean" install. |

Have you seen what FastEddie found? »Automate SlipStreaming Service Packs Seems to work GREAT!! Took me about 12 minutes to create an XP Pro SP2 slipstreamed CD, including burning the ISO (AMD 3200+). Most people are reporting about 20 minutes total .
[edit] Oops, it was FastEddie that put me on to it, but seems that JHB found it earlier also but it somehow went unnoticed by many here: »Re: [XP Pro] Trying to Slipstream XP pro And RC2 sp2 -- Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment. Barry LePatner |

TRE2004Join The Revolution join:2004-03-04 Richmond, KY | reply to 2kmaro can someone tell me what the difference is between the network install, express install, and the Auto Update download. I understand that the network install can be slipstreamed, and the express install ONLY puts what you need on your pc.. So I guess what i want to know is the difference between Express install and the Automatic Update install?? Cause I installed the network install and I was having problems with windows update after install, BTW still having the problem.. but I can't access V5 windows update, even with SP2. I called microsoft and they told me to remove it, they said since I ONLY have one PC that I couldn't download that one cause it was ONLY for NETWORK installs...
I really think that they are just full of ISH.. HEHE
Cause I'm WAITING and WAITING for the AUTOMATIC UPDATES, and it sucks cause I already had it installed.. and no other problems other than the windows updates... But, someone please try to explain what the difference is between the express install and the Automatic updates install.. |
|
janderso1JimPremium,MVM join:2000-04-15 Saint Petersburg, FL | There should be no difference in what you get with express install vs. automatic update. However, when you run the network install on a specific PC, it should only the same files as express install or automatic update. -- Jim Anderson |

So, there is NO real difference right? If I wait till the windows update download I am goin to have the same problem that I am having now with not being able to access windows update V5 page since the network install didn't help... right?
If so, I guess I am goin to have to start over... format or something.. I am goin to have to find out how to do it. Cause I have a HP pc, and it DIDN'T come with a windows Xp Cd... But on my pc I had a Recovery partition that I made a backup of and deleted the partition to get the hard drive space... So... if I made a backup copy of the recovery partition... will I need a windows xp CD??
I'm goin to have to find out how to do it.. |

janderso1JimPremium,MVM join:2000-04-15 Saint Petersburg, FL | First, I suggest you start a new topic and explain what you did and exactly what type of error you got.
Second, I would go to the HP web site to see if there is any information about SP2 and your PC model.
I would reformat or use the recovery partition only as a last resort because there is no assurance that it will fix anything. -- Jim Anderson |
