Re: The "Official" SP2 Bug Thread I think I might just uninstall and leave it uninstalled. Norton doesn't seem to be liking me the past few months with it doing some weird stuff. Probably will install AVG instead.

TheGiantNext Year Is Here. join:2001-03-28 Augusta, GA | quote: Symantec Norton product update for Windows® XP Service Pack 2
Situation: You would like more information regarding the Windows® XP Service Pack 2 release from Microsoft and whether your Symantec Norton products are compatible with Service Pack 2.
Solution: Windows® XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is a major security-focused operating system upgrade that includes an enhanced Windows firewall and a utility (Windows Security Center) that monitors the state of your computer's security.
Symantec will release a product update to provide native support for the Windows Security Center status utility found in SP2. This update will be available worldwide over the coming weeks and will enable Symantec products to communicate their status to the Windows Security Center utility.
Symantec encourages its customers to install the product update prior to installing SP2 in order to avoid incorrect reporting from Windows Security Center. Symantecs consumer customers will receive notification from their Norton product when the update is available. Consumers will be able to download the SP2 product update by clicking the LiveUpdate icon found in their Norton security software.
The SP2 product update for English versions of Norton products will be available beginning August 10, 2004. At that time, Symantec will provide detailed information about SP2 and compatibility with Norton products, including frequently asked questions (FAQs) and support documentation. Please check back to »service.symantec.com/xpinfo on August 10, 2004.
Watch for your Norton updated soon. -- Keep America safe Bush 2004 »www.georgewbush.com/KerryMediaCenter/ |

Norton Anti-Virus 2003 Pro issue I have boxed retail Norton Anti-Virus Pro 2003 that I purchased at Best Buy in Columbus, Ohio last year. Today I installed SP2 and got the message about it being aware that I'm running anti-virus software but it couldn't determine it's status. I followed the suggested fix I've read about and put a check on the Firewall options that I have anti-virus software and will monitor it myself so I won't get that balloon window.
Then I clicked on the link posted on page 1 of this thread to the Symantec web site and ran their Automated Support Assistant Program to see if maybe I had some other problem. The resulting message was:
"The Automated Support Assistant has determined that this machine is running a pre-released or beta version of Norton AntiVirus 2003. This version of the software is not supported by Symantec and cannot be updated. Please contact the vendor that you purchased the software from to request a released copy of Norton AntiVirus 2003. Details on our release version are available at the Symantec Products and Services Page.":o:o
I don't think?? Best Buy would be selling pre-released or beta versions of Symantec software would they? And I really doubt that Best Buy is going to let me exchange this software since it's over a year old!!:p
Also posted on the Symantec web site was the statement that support for NAV 2003 Pro would end 9/8/04. That seems strange considering the product is only a year old?
I know Symantec released a 2004 version that I read on BBR was buggy and now on the Symantec web site they're already selling NAV Pro 2005.
Does anybody else have NAV Pro 2003, and if so, are you having any problems with it running under SP2?
Thanks, Mike |

 | Yes I have a problem. Since installing XPSP2 I can no longer use Live Update to update NAV2003. I get the 1803 error and the only answer Symantec has is to reinstall my AV. I HAVE uninstalled and reinstalled Live Update numerous times now. Stupid doofs. Microsoft warns them almost a year in advance and they STILL have not come out with their ANNOUNCED patch. WinXPSP2 NAV2003 Win firewall turned off. Win popup blocker turned off. Security center disabled (after telling it I have my own AV I want to monitor). WinXP IE security settings at default(tried setting it to low- didnt help). Turned off and disabled Zone Alarm- unloaded vsmon from startup- no change. No other security software running, have enabled ALL of WINXPSP2 services- nothing. What a joke. Now NAV2003 is no longer supported? Great. |
