| any update for Symantec Update for XP SP2?
Now, I may be confused, but according to Symantec they were due to release the update for Norton Antivirus today (I am hoping 2003 is included with that), but I have yet to see an update either via live update, or on the Symantec site.. Anyone else see an update yet? -- Llama -- The other white meat. |

| reply to clevere1 I re-read the article at Symantec earlier today. It says they will be releasing an update BEGINNING today, not ON today (for home users)

Well, don't most assume Beginning on August 10th, mean .. it will be available on that date and all dates forward of that? -- Llama -- The other white meat. |

4 edits | reply to clevere1 I've heard a completely unsubstantiated rumor that the update will come out on LU later today and it will be in two parts, requiring a reboot between the parts. Sort of the computer equivalent of epoxy maybe?
We will see... |

| I haven't seen that one before. Have you had 2003 or any previous verious of NAV/NIS on the box? Seems like I've read some posts that the uninstall isn't clean and Symantec has a tool on the website to clean things up before a new install. That may have been going from 2002 to 2003 though, can't remember. |

Not all updates will be released today after talking to someone who knows the status of the LUs for XP SP2. For example, NIS 2002 update for XP SP2 and some enterprise stuff (someone already pointed this out) are out. -- Ant @ The Ant Farm: »antfarm.ma.cx ... 1 edit | reply to clevere1 What does the update fix beyond reporting its status in xp security center or whatever it is? downloaded sp2 to one computer just to see what it is. And Norton to it exists just status unknown. If that is the only thing who cares? Not leaving Norton because of that. |

That looks like nothing more than the weekly update to the auto-configuration rules templates. (Even the size is about right.) -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

I have to agree with you, JV. Nothing new in the sys files, and after rebooting (not required for the LU), NAV 2003 still isn't showing in the Security Center. Time to edit a post... | reply to clevere1 I have tested the corporate version 9.0 XP patch on a Windows XP with SP2 and it does not show up under the Security Center. Even worse it requires the symantec.msi file to install (I don't have the full file name in front of me). This is not acceptable as this laptop is installed in an unmanaged mode. I had to get the Symantec CD1 to complete the install. I have many clients with the same type of setup.

| Bondman - What have we been doing for the last X amount of years? Did we have the Security Center to remind us that our AV was out of date? Nupe... We checked it or we didn't.
It would be "nice" to see the Center "approving" our version and choice of an AV prog, but this particular aspect of SP2 is more "fluff" than hardcore security as in an IE vulnerability. -- Security Forum FAQs ..♥.. AV Complaints? ..♥.. Raj karega Khalsa! ..♥.. XP SP2 |

It's not the fact it just updates the security center. I want to be sure that if I update to SP2, Norton isn't going to going apesh@@ on me. I've already ghosted my drive, still waiting for the update -- Llama -- The other white meat. |
