| Amazing......
The so called "moral" people who tell us to vote a certain way and claim integrity through their articles, are the same ones who steal internet service.
Let's not get into details here. She was stealing and "Paul" let her steal the connection. This could be a matter of illegal reselling or leasing (even though he did not charge her.)
What this article should be saying is that there can be many wireless access points in the same apartment building. I know of at least 3 other Linksys routers in my complex that my laptop sees occasionally. People think they automatically go to a certain router and that's it.
This should also serve a lesson to people to secure their systems. If someone got the idea (already done in Canada) someone could get Kazaa working or even surf child porn on your connection. Kinda hard to find out who did it when you have an open access point. You could be held responsible as most police officials have no clue about computer crime. |

1 edit | Stealing my @ss. Paul was reselling his service to her at $0 per month.
Under Section 252(c)(4)(B) of the Telcom Act of 1996, Verizon and SBC both have the duty to "not to prohibit, and not to impose unreasonable or discriminatory conditions or limitations on, the resale of such telecommunications service, except that a State commission may, consistent with regulations prescribed by the Commission under this section, prohibit a reseller that obtains at wholesale rates a telecommunications service that is available at retail only to a category of subscribers from offering such service to a different category of subscribers." (The State Commission language means that states can prohibit reselling residential services to businesses, for example.)
And VZ's and SBC's offerings are indeed telecom services--they've both tariffed them.
Calvoiper -- VoIP--the death knell of remaining voice monopolies! |

Calvoiper
The dial tone is tariffed, not the DSL. DSL is an information service. |

When newspapers show blind liberalism or conservatism, then I do question it. Otherwise, they have a right to their opinion.
Here is a paper that is condoning (sic) a practice that most ISP's don't approve of. For them to approve of this shows they do not care about right and wrong but what sells papers. |

| I wouldn't say they're condoning wifi sharing by running this column. The columnist is entitled to her own opinion, it doesn't have to reflect that of the paper's editorial staff. If the NYT cared "about right and wrong," as you put it, what should they do? Report her and her neighbor to SBC? Fire her? Not everything is as black and white as you believe. -- Jimmysquid.com - I take pictures. |

| This article was supposed to be informative but turned into a confession. It almost felt like it was looking for justification for what she was doing.
Kind of like an episode of COPS I saw where a woman bought drugs to show police where a dealer lived. |
