Re: emachines m6807 laptop hibernate hangs said by Romney2012: Upgraded m6807 laptop to windows home/xp sp2. After that the hibernate and standby modes no longer worked and when attempted hung the system. I checked the event log and there was hundreds of errors on acpiec module. This was the error info:
Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware returned data when none was requested. This may indicate that the BIOS is incorrectly trying to access the EC without synchronizing with the OS. The data is being ignored.
When I backed off xp sp2 to xp sp1, everything worked again.
Obviously a problem between acpiec.sys module and whatever other modules it calls and emachines laptop bios. Sent info off to emachines support but heard nothing back yet. The AMD processor forum had other instances of this problem with the M680x models of emachines laptops.
acpiec is the same exact module in sp1 and sp2, so there must be some interaction going on that causes that module to record all the errors.
By turning off hardware DEP protection on my AMD64 laptop computer, the problems went away. This may still be a bios problem or xp/sp2 problem, but the circumvention got the system working w/o getting any of the acpiec errors. Of course, I am running without this new security protection capability, but I'll beat up MS and Emachines to solve that problem. Here is a Microsoft link that describes how to disable DEP(Data Execution Prevention). »www.microsoft.com/technet/prodte···mpr.mspx You add the /noexecute=AlwaysOff line to the boot.ini file. -- My Home Page The Kerry/Edwards Team When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber. --Winston Churchill | | | Same behavior on my 6805. David I got nowhere with emachines support. Very disappointing. I tried to deal with HP, who bought emachines, and got nowhere there too. Of course, as listed in an earlier post of mine in this msg thread, I got everything working with SP2 by turning off Data Execution Protection - and that includes all the function buttons. In the AMD forum other users got things working by installing a more recent version of firmware. But emachines won't support your machine if you do that.
See this message thread at AMD if you want to try newer firmware not supported by emachines. »forums.amd.com/index.php?showtop···ry178458 -- Come visit the Red Room forum Bush/Cheney 2004 When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber.- Winston Churchill | | deigen join:2004-08-24 Boca Raton, FL | reply to boog Yes, The function button - when used with a any function key - causes system to lock. | |
