The problem had to do with file association from serveral photo editing software. Removed all software, set bmp back to paint, reloaded software and was ok.
Not sure if that helps you any - since your problem seems a little worse, but just my experience with a related problem.
Good luck! |

 | reply to EvilByDesire I have exactly the same problem. I've tried uninstall SP2, re-intall SP1 then SP2 and didn't solve. Only happens with SP2 installed. |
|
 | reply to EvilByDesire Just found a way to solve the problem! Download this tool: »www.snapfiles.com/get/shellexview.html Then disable one by one any third party shell extension (type Context Menu. Sort by this column to make it easy). In my case it was SecureIt that was causing explorer to crash. |
|
 | I had same right-click problem after upgrade to SP 2.
Thanks Josimio, nifty little program, in my case the problem was Dr DivX. |

EDIT: Try 5.2 |
|
 | I had the same problems after updating to SP2 in XP (Media Centre Edition) I also removed "Dr. Divx" and the problem seems to have gone away. I've currently left the rest of the DIVX Pro files in place without any sign of trouble yet. |

jonxy join:2001-09-07 Potomac, MD | there is a "quick fix"
the problem isnt DrDivx, its actually the encode option in the right click menu. here is a little file to fix it..
basicly it just removes the right click encode with divx option |

1 edit | reply to EvilByDesire I have a problem with right clicking but only as it pertains to music files... windows explorer crashes..... any thoughts on that one.... or does the same thing apply? I am using Windows Media Player 10 could that have something to do with it? Everything worked fine before I downloaded sp2 and wmp10. |
|
 | reply to jonxy Just to let you know that I tried this right click fix with my right click music file problem and and checked it out after.....as I am typing this windows explorer is crashing.... Any other ideas? |
|
 | reply to josimio Thank you I did this and found the problem.... in my case it was MP3ToWave Shell Extension...disabled that and problem solved. Going to try uninstalling it and reinstalling and see if I can get my converter to work.... as I would like to have it.

| reply to jonxy it worked for me , thanks a lot jonxy |
|
 | reply to EvilByDesire For me it was CmdLineExt03.dll which lets you open a cmd window to any folder. Kind of like how windows 9x command.com would be at the current open folder in My Computer or Explorer. |

 | reply to EvilByDesire I had this problem with the very latest version of Zone Alarm Security Suite. Used the cool little tool referenced a couple posts earlier to disable the zone labs virus scan, and now it's back to normal.
VERY annoying thing to have happen. |

 | Re: [XP Pro] Right Click on a File = Explorer cras My problem is similar. But explorer crashes and restarts when I click on certain avi files, NOT all avi files. |
|
 | Mine was winrar. |
