| Lag :-/
Recently I got xbox live so my son...and I could play Madden online. Since then I've noticed quite a bit of lag during games. We've probably had this but never really noticed while surfing the net and what not. I just wondered if anyone knew if this sort of thing is typical for DSL or if there's something that can be done.
Thanks in advance, |

| I'm on the 19.95 plan. Been trying to find what the stated UL/DL speeds are on my acct but haven't yet. I should know that off the top of my head but I didn't set the acct up.
Last 2 speed tests were 466/193 and 361/194.
I'm somewhat new to this so forgive me if it takes me a bit to get the info up that I need to.
Thanks, |

| Looks a little high. 466/193 seems a bit like you're capped at around 768/256. Still, it looks like you're getting way less than you should.
Are you, by any chance, running anything while that's going? Are you behind a router? Any P2P apps/viruses/trojans (AKA - check for those lately)? -- AIM | irc.removed.us - #dslr | Scanner | Blog |

| Behind a router and run System Suite in the bg. I am capped though. They had to cap my connection a while back because the ADSL modem had to resync every hour or so. Earlier tonight I shut my comp down completely to see if the problem prsisted and it did. I can try it without the router if that's possibly the problem. |

3 edits | It's a US Robotics router. Just did another speed test without it and hit 586/208. Edumacate me is the the dl or ul what I'm looking for with a problem like this?
Also, I would have to run through the router to use the connection for XBL, right?

| reply to hitmanwa There is a chance that in addition to being capped at 768, you may be on an interleaved profile. Interleaving makes your connection more stable, but it raises your first hop ping to over 60 ms.
Your connection apparently has too much noise which is affecting normal DSL so both of those measures have to be taken to increase your stability. |

join:2004-01-28 Taylor, TX | I haven't checked on the firmware yet, will do that tonight and post. As for the MTU size...I have no idea how to check that. I'll research it though and check it out. Again, thanks for all the help guys. |

join:2004-01-28 Taylor, TX | It needed a firmware upgrade. =) Didn't even think of that. I still need to get a wireless router though. Tired of running cable from my comp to the 2nd one and the xbox. =)
Thanks again, |

| reply to hitmanwa The tweak test can tell you if the router's MTU is set too low : »/tweaks More likely it could be a bad firmware version. Several different brands of routers have been reported to slow down DSL until their firmwares were upgraded and then the performance was perfectly acceptable. |

| I'm still trying to work through the tweaking....trying to get a grasp of everything. My speeds should be 1.5Mbps-3.0Mbps downstream/384Kbps upstream. Now, on the results screen it asks for my advertised speed. Should I put the low range in for that? |
