[Broadvox Direct] Can't call 1-866 and 1-877

Using my Broadvox Direct service I can't reach 1-866 or 1-877 numbers.

For now I cannot reach someone on my area code (418) but this is because I need my number to be activated. They say 10-12 business day and now it is like 6 or 7. This can be the reason too why 1-866 and 1-877 do not work.

So for instance I tried to call 1-877-380-2511 that is my ISP Customer Service. I experienced the same for few other numbers and no one worked.

Any help?

This is common to many VoIP services I think.
I could not call an 866 number either.
In my case the toll free number is geographically restricted.
Also these type of calls appear to be
coming from an entirely different area than where placed.

(Error message was your call cannot be reached from your area.
same call works fine on POTS line in my area.)

You may be able to get a non toll free number for your ISP.
(which is covered in your VoIP plan).

As an example dial 18004444444 on your VoIP phone and you
will hear the number they think you are calling from.
Other non toll free calls appear to get correct information on my VoIP service.

I can. My Vonage rings with the 1-866 number.

It's odd, another number is 1-800-884-7097 and they give me different numbers. One gives me my correct number (the 7097 one) and the all fours one gives me an Ann Arbor, MI number where my VoIP host is located. I have a toll free number, so it may be different for me.

Thanks for the new number not in my list of them.
This number also gives the correct calling party information for me in Lingo.
No 800 service and my caller ID is blocked.

The responsible organization for the 444 number is MCI
The responsible organization for your 7097 number is Litel or LCI.

I cant explain the difference except maybe the networks involved?

If you dial 408 555 0148 are you redirected to a 411 operator (Lingo)? Or is it an interesting recording?
(Number was in a movie on a for sale sign)

1-866-536-7246 I just dialed this number with no problem using BVX ( Broadvox Direct ). You ISP number 1-877-380-2511 gives me a tone that makes me think the number isn't valid. I was able to dial this number 1-877-927-6337 with no issue using BVX. So to me it would seem that 1866 and 1877 numbers can in fact be dialed using this provider. These numbers were obtained using Google.

FYI - I'm using the new DTA unit not a Sipura unit.

Joe912 - what "ANI" do you get when you dial 800-555-1180, or 800-444-4444? FWIW, when I dial 877-380-2511 I get a recording that the number isn't available from my calling area...which makes sense given that it's Videotron.

GotLingo - NPA-555-01xx are deliberately reserved for use in films and so on...they should go nowhere. If they're going to 411 it's because the provider is sloppy and is treating 555-anything as directory assistance...which is WRONG!

sgarrand - 800-884-7097 is reporting caller ID, while 800-444-4444 (and 800-555-1180) are reporting ANI. I dialed the 7097 number from my FWD line via the *1 Michigan gateway and it reported I was calling from my 5-digit FWD number(!), which is what the gateway sends as caller ID; the ANI from the FWD toll-free gateway is now a 212 number, a change from the usual 248 number. (Maybe the toll-free gateway is now Jeff Pulver's and not Telesthetic's? )

Well then I'm at least glad that my called ID continues to show my toll free number. If I ever need to call a "location specific" toll free number I'll use the POTS my family here uses. The toll free number is just my personal line.

No it's valid. I can reach it using a POTS line.

Also the two numbers you gave me work fine. Strange that the Videotron one doesn't work. The problem isn't that I can't call my ISP because they have a local number and few regional numbers (of course!). This was only about testing my new Broadvox Direct service.
