 | Anyone used SETIHide and had problems?? I went to the SETIHide website the day before and looked around the site to find some screenshots and some opinions on the program and found that it looked like a good program to use. So I downloaded it and installed it. After executing it, everything was pretty good and I had it setup for 5 cached WUs and all the rest of the settings... Then I watched it work away. I was also using SETISpy @ that time. Maybe it was that they are not compatible with each other. It started doing all these weird things.
Now, before I go any further, I should tell you that before I installed SETIHide, I had about 85% of a WU done (I'll learn my lesson later on..). So I was thinking about caching WUs and then I made up my mind about not caching any WUs...because now, I am figuring, the berkeley site is pretty stable after about 2 years of testing and figuring things out (now don't start posting and saying that berkeley is NOT stable @ all, this post is not about that at ALL). So I went on and deleted the SETIHide program and the dlls that came with it, but NOT the WU that was in progress. Then I copied out the WU files and thought that I could continue crunching away. WRONG!! Big mistake. I should've never have installed SETIHide...Then I couldn't get SETISpy to work with the CLI anymore for some BIZARRE reason....anyways, I spent the next day and a half trying to clear things up and I ended up losing the close to 90% done WU and starting over @ 0%....Anyone have the same bad experience about SETIHide?? Maybe it was SETISpy in conjunction with SETIHide?? I don't know..Anyways I'm not trying another program for CLI except for SETISpy ever again!!!
Oh yeah, BTW, I've already tried SETI Driver and went through about 3 sets of instructions on how to set it up. No luck. It even (I don't know how this would happen) deleted my CLI program!! So I had to go to the website and download it again...man....what a mess these last few couple of days......... :( -- CPU idling a lot?? Put it to good use! Join SETI@Home! |

| I used SETI Hide and it sucks. To use SETI Driver which most use don't press New Client, it deletes it. All you do is turn on SETI Driver and check Use SETI Spy option. It will work. Then with SETI driver you can cache as many WUs as you want. SETI Hide is a terrible program, and I have had many problems with it. SETI Drive along with SETI Spy works best. If you have any problems or need any help feel free to AIM me(its in my info) or if I'm not on use the DSLR IM. Hope this helps. -- CPU doing nothing? Put it to work for a good cause SETI |

I had a similar problem I guess. Well my SETI Hide was actually processing the same WU but at different %'s ! It would go from 1.67% to 25.68% and kept going back and forth. Kinda weird. -- CPU doing nothing? Put it to work for a good cause SETI |

| reply to samburgers I never will use that goo ware again. All I do is click on SETI Driver and the CLI starts right up with no problem and no fuss. Very simply. Though I did like the graphing features to SETI Hide, it isn't worth the hassle. -- CPU doing nothing? Put it to work for a good cause SETI |

 | Okay, you know what everyone?!? I've given up COMPLETELY.....Happened AGAIN!! I decided to give SETI Driver ANOTHER try, and guess what?? It LET ME DOWN AGAIN!!! omg....I was crunching away on a WU (the very same one I got back up after the SETIHide problem) @ about 80%...and then the same problem occurred......I am SO sick and fed up with SETI Driver...... :(
What a waste......3 WUs just DOWN the drain...when THOSE could be added to the WU total of our group......I feel MISERABLE!!! :( -- CPU idling a lot?? Put it to good use! Join SETI@Home! |

| reply to samburgers Slow down and take a couple of deep breathes, O.K.?
First let me tell you that when I started trying to use SETI Driver (and myself, being new) ended up deleting the CLI three times. The Instructions here at DSLR are wrong for setting up SETI Driver (sorry MeeToo) and every time that you press the "New Client" button in SETI Driver, you will delete the CLI (Command Line Interface) program.
Give me a hour to make you some simple screen captures and I promise you will be able to use SETI Driver, SETI Spy and the CLI all together and without a problem. O.K.?

 | Ok! Thanks so much......but I think after you post, I'll have to wait until this WU is done b4 I'm gonna risk another one! Thanks again! :) -- CPU idling a lot?? Put it to good use! Join SETI@Home! |

Anon | reply to Doctor Olds I use SetiStash on about five machines, the web site, find link at the seti at home sight, has very easy to follow instructions. Only issue is the setiSpy program and it don't get along real well I use setiWatch to keep the data base of done units one each machine. Have never messed with seti driver so can't compare. Have used SeiHide and lost lots of wu with it. Good luck Biff |

 | Ha! Since I just started a new WU about an hour ago, I need probably another 7-10 hours to complete this WU. -- CPU idling a lot?? Put it to good use! Join SETI@Home! |

Before you start, make sure that SETI's CLI, SETI Spy and SETI Driver are all in the same folder. Here are the Text instructions that you can refer to, but the captures are pretty clear, I hope. Red areas are needed and Green areas are optional.
»pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/faq.htm#FAQ 2.13 said by SETI Spy FAQ: How do I set up SETI Spy so that it works with SETI Driver? Use the following procedure (courtesy of SETI Driver's Mike Ober): Start SETI Spy, ignoring any errors it reports. Go to the Client page and click the Configure button to bring up the Client Configuration window. Then, set the following: Client Path: Click Browse and select SETI Driver Client Parameters: -SETISpy Enter "SETI Driver" (without the quotes) in the Client Window Title box and check "This is the full title". Uncheck both Keep Alive boxes. Uncheck "Hide Client after Restart". Check "Start Client on SETI Spy start". Check "Restore client minimized". Check or Uncheck "Stop client on SETI Spy exit" - your choice. Click the OK button. Go to the Setup Client page and check "Ignore presence of state file on startup". Exit and restart SETI Spy. This should start SETI Driver configured in such a way as to feed SETI Spy information. Bring up SETI Driver's dialog from the system tray and configure your processing configuration and proxy/socks server information. You must leave the Use SETI Spy option checked. Minimize SETI Driver and then right click on the SETI Driver icon and select "Save Configuration". Take SETI Driver out of your startup group and put SETI Spy in it.
You should be good to go now.

 | Wow....I looked over the pictorial instructions and they look GREAT! :) Thanx for such DETAILED instructions!
Now, I MIGHT give SETI Driver a SECOND try, but only AFTER this WU is complete and a new one comes in!

pranky join:2001-04-17 Mount Kisco, NY | reply to samburgers I used SetiHide on 5 machines.....am now down to using it on one machine. It seems to act screwy sometimes and takes extented time on WU's. I had one WU that took 99+ hrs on a PII 300. Didn't have a chance to stop it...occured over the weekend on my work comp. After installing setispy on the same machine i have never gone over 20 hours. It does seems to work fine on the other PII333 that i use it on and it did work fine on my 1.2 Athlon....but i just didnt want to chance it.... -- "All these thoughts they make no sense, I find bliss in ignorance" |

 | reply to Doctor Olds Oh yeah, got another question. If I want to run the CLI @ startup, which one should I put in the startup folder? the SETISpy, CLI, SETI Driver, or all of them or whichever 2??
Right now, I only have the SETISpy in the startup folder because that also starts up the CLI... -- CPU idling a lot?? Put it to good use! Join SETI@Home! |

RhapsPremium join:2001-02-23 New York, NY | reply to samburgers I use SetiHide on several machines and SetiSpy on the others. I never had problems. However I have one machine, my Tbird 1Ghz which always refused to run SetiHide and I dont know why. On the machines I run SetiSpy, it is in the startup and it is set to restart the client if idle. So far it runs fine but I dont use SetiDriver. -- "If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it" Albert Einstein. |

It depends upon what you end up using. If you are not using a caching program, put SetiSpy in the Startup & set SetiSpy to start the CLI. If yo are using SetiDriver, then put it in the Startup & it will start the CLI.
FYI -- SetiDriver is a very good program & most people don't have many problems with it. However, on some computers it simply won't work right, and there's no explanation for it. I have 1 computer that it would never work on. That wasn't a big deal for me, since I have a home network & wanted to use SetiQue anyway (which, by the way, is another very good caching program). -- Don't waste those unused cycles!
