It's obvious as you drive south on Montfort. It's really nice around Montfort Place and "The Villas" (still not used to calling it that). But as you get closer towards Target it just goes to sh*t. |

| reply to bky The best way to look at how crime has grown in that area is to visit this link:
Click on the individual police "beats" to see the crime stats for the area. You can change the year too.
I would not be too concerned with "thefts" since the vast majority are probably shoplifting, but BMV's, Burglary of a Motor Vehicle have skyrocketed. |

| I did notice that the further south you go from beltline, the rougher it gets. Since I've been in the area, I see alot of cop cars just sitting around in empty parking lots regularly. By the way, we did end up getting the apartment at the villas and so far we both like it. My only complaint so far is cabineting and shelves are all made from cheap particle-board. Neighbors seem nice -- Write that down. http://www.fanglan.org |

| reply to DFWDraco76 My first apartment was Section 8 when I was 18 and working a Sears and going to UT. I just finish high school in Houston where I was living with my parents in a 350k home. I wanted to go on my own and my parents were ok with that.I wanted to make it on my own.I found living a section 8 was a learning experience.I got to see how these people live. Here were some things I learned and notice about section 8 apartment people living in Arlington.
On the first or second day of the month everybody piles up at the mailbox area waiting for the mailman to bring the government checks.
They call these checks "Getting Paid"
Allot of people get Disability check and are able to play basketball all day.
They are very skilled mechanics and are able to make any junk car operate.
Ice cream trucks love to visit Section 8 apartments so they gouge them with 2$ to 3$ each for an icecream bar. They get alot of bussisness.
Many people in Section 8 are getting an uneployment check but was not interested in a job.
Many of the women management team of the apartment complex live in the complex and have a few kids from the renters.
Fried chicken restaurants and Taco Bells are always operating very close to the apartments.
Most of the Section 8 complexes having swimming pools but they are always closed even in the summer.
Beer and cigarettes are a high priority on ever bodies list.
Rent to own business are also always very close.
2 bedroom apartments can accommodate 10 or more people.
Most everybody is related in some way or another.
There was alot more but I am getting tired to list them all. These were just what I saw and learned in 6 months at an Section 8 apartment in Arlington. This is just the place I lived at and may or may not be representative of Section 8 as a whole. |

| I realize the thread is a little bit dead, but I have lived at Preston and Arapaho for over 2 years now, at Preston Greens. This place looks a little run down, but is actually a nice place to be, and cheap (770 for a medium sized 2 bed 2 bath).
I am about to move in with my girlfriend at Montfort Place - she's been there for a year, and before that at Jefferson @ Montfort. The vibe is definitely different, only half a mile away from my old place. |
