My FIOS install

Hello all,
Just thought I would drop a line and tell you how the install went. I had the install scheduled for today the 25th. They came out yesterday and buried the fiber from the vault. They did a nice job on it too. The techs came out today and switched over my phone service from copper to the fiber, and they hooked up my internet service. They were friendly and they definitely knew what they were doing. The service is now in trials (this applies to anyone who has the service now in Keller). I agreed to fill out some surveys when they come out to get service now. They brought with them the d-link router. They support that and they do have the ability to check cable status and such from their end using your username and the password you set up when you set service up. The tech had to provision my line through his cell connected laptop. The laptop is what he uses to actually authorize your ONT on the network. The TV service won't be offered until next year.

Oh well, I am very happy and the total intsall after they buried the fiber yesterday, took less than 2 hours today.

Your download speed : 15031536 bps, or 14679 kbps.
A 1834.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 1837109 bps, or 1794 kbps.

The pics are probably overkill but just wanted everyone to see what they are gonna get when they get FIOS.

That is very nice. The main reason why FTTH is such a hard thing to accomplish is the cost of equipment and last mile installation. For instance, we made a nice 500 foot run of fiber in our plant and the cost of the fiber alone was over $1500. That doesn't include the equipment we had to buy and the labor to help run it. That is just for one run.

I know I am jealous and wish I had that kind of speed. Please keep us informed! You are one of the first here to get that kind of service and your input is welcome!

Pardon me while I salivate at the prospect of downloading an entire CD-Rom of data in 6 minutes. And yes, I understand it would likely be limited by the speed of the server downloading from; but still!

Here's hoping your trial goes well! Congrats, and thanks for posting!

Those speeds should be illegal, its just not fair that someone can have something that someone else cant. Lets go back to communism.

I wonder why long it will stay at 14Mbps. Do they really have the network to handle everyone at that speed? I doubt it.
